Motor mount

So I may have jumped the gun a bit. I installed a mustang 2 front end in my 1955.2 3100. I Rushed out and got it powdercoated without thinking about motor mounts. I was thinking about putting in one of the tubular crossmember but now don’t think it will work. I am pretty sure it will interfere with the mustang 2 crossmember. If at all possible I would like to avoid welding on the frame again so does anyone have any suggestions on motor mounts? I found these but they are for a 1954 with a mustang 2 front end. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1947-...IFS,52265.html
I am not too familiar with the differences in the 2 frames. I am planning on running an ls1. Would these work for my application if I use the adjustable ls1 brackets? Thanks for the help. Matt

Re: Motor mount

The tubular type motor mounts as sold by Speedway Motors and others definitely will interfere with MII front ends.

Can't tell you if the Speedway bolt-in mounts you referenced will work, but Speedway has an excellent return policy if you want to do a trial fit.

If it were me, I'd design and fabricate my own mounts. A few hours with a cutoff wheel and a welder and you've got a perfect custom mount.

PS: That's just one reason I paint, not powder coat. Paint is easy to touch up.

Re: Motor mount

on my '58 with MII front end, I used these, they work great. I had a tubular motor mount, it would not fit. There is probably something similar for LS1. They would need to be welded in, your powder coat touched up.

Re: Motor mount

Just went thru the process, we used the style pictured above, I think you will have to weld.

Re: Motor mount

Someone makes front motor mounts specifically for MII suspension but I'd think the ones Jkmhb showed would be the clean and simple way.

You might check with the manufacture of the crossmember to see if they sell a motor mount specifically designed to work with that crossmember in that truck. It may not be the lease expensive but it may be less headaches.

Re: Motor mount

If your engine is in the original position and you have rack and
pinion steering the angle of the shaft on the rack can be a little troublesome to work around. If I were doing mine again I think I would get my steering linkage planned out like I wanted it and then figure out what shape and position my mounts needed to be.

Re: Motor mount

Someone sells some decent looking tube mounts that attach to the MII crossmember and the frame an have a nice curve to them.

Scroll down through this catalog to page 19 to look at the mounts on their TF frame and then to page 66 to see their Universal mounts. Even with the Morrison name tag 130 is a bit rich for my blood but a local shop might bend up some tubing pretty reasonable and it would be simple to weld the tube on to make the mount. https://artmorrison.com/2006cat/2017_AME_Catalog_LR.pdf Lots of ideas in that catalog.
