Home from the Bodyshop!!

8:30 am wake-up call: Bodyshop's Roll back dropping off the 71. Ah the smell of fresh clear coat in the morning!! I just wanted to share a few updated pics with you guys. I got a little work done before 5:00 when the roll back came to take her off for some service work.

Antenna shaved for a smooth cowl. One piece windows with Billet Specialties bent arm mirrors on filler pieces. Fuel filler in left rear side marker (thanks, Putter!). Cable operated hood latch (thanks again, Putter!). Triple plated chrome outer grille from Wes at Classic Heartbeat. New oak bed wood kit with polished aluminum "wow" skid strips. Stainless mesh cowl screen.

Soon to be installed: 18" Billet Specialties Vintec Dish wheels, BFG G-force tires. Winter project is to replace the interior.

Re: Home from the Bodyshop!!

nice, a couple things i like are the painted white defrost vents, the mesh under the cowl, and are you going to run wipers? And is that a chrome grille shell like you'd buy at gmcpauls?

Quote:
1971-72 Chevy grill shell is triple nickel chrome plated steel with headlight bezels built into the grill!! This chrome plated steel outer grill shell will not fog like the original anodized aluminum grilles and the triple nickel chrome plating is show polished to a mirror finish which far outshines the original style grilles finish and will not dent or scratch as easily as the originals! Fits 71-72 or will also fit the 69-70 Chevy, but special consideration will have to be given for relocating the turn signals. Can be used with either our stock center grill insert or our custom polished 4mil or 8mil billet aluminum inserts.

$369.95

Re: Home from the Bodyshop!!

I am not running wipers. I have the ribbed Billet Specialties stem covers to dress it up rather than just leaving it plain. As for the grille, I think that is the same one. It is made by Tri Plus. I got mine from Wes at Classic Heartbeat. I can't make up my mind. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the chrome and the fact that it will not scratch as easily as the aluminum grille. I am thinking that I want to paint black around the headlight trim bezels to break it up a little.

Re: Home from the Bodyshop!!

Krue, with any luck I am planning on hitting the cruise in next Saturday (Dec. 3rd) in Byram. The last time I was able to take the 71 was back in February. That is where I met GMan69, Putter, and Incoma. Maybe you will be able to head up our way again!

Re: Home from the Bodyshop!!

Great looking truck! Nice job. How do you like the one piece windows? Are they pretty solid? I'm thinking of doing this to the suburban I'm building and have heard mixed reviews. The outer grille looks good too, how's the fit and finish? Keep us updated with pics.

Re: Home from the Bodyshop!!

Good point Phantom Dually! I use two coats of Mothers Polish on the glass and accelerator is my variable speed wipers!! As long as you are going over 30 mph, it is not a problem. In all honesty, I travel so much with my job that last year I only put between 400 to 500 miles on the truck in the time that it was not in the shop getting the engine and tranny built and the bodyshop for the new paint job. I am looking forward to next Spring and Summer.

Great looking truck! White trucks really stand out and look classy. Is that an XM receiver I see through the windshield? If so, how is the reception?

That looks great! The new wheels should really add to the more modern look too. And about replacing the interior, don't you already have that really nice roddoors interior?

KEH, Thanks for the kind words! Yes that is my XM antenna on top of the dash over the oem speaker area. That one is made by American International. Although it is about the size of the remote for your keyless entry/remote starter/security system, I have found one by Terk that is about have the size of the one in the picture. I have purchased it (Terk Micro2) and plan on replacing the one in the dash photo. As for the reception, It works just as well as the ones on the outside of our company demo vehicles. I will admit that I had to play around the positioning/placement. It seemed that the closer I placed it to the hood, the more it tend to fade out.

Dean

Re: Home from the Bodyshop!!

That's one sharp truck. I have a xm sys. but a wire on the antenna has been damaged, did'nt know they would work mounted inside the truck. I think I'll patch my cowl & repaint then buy a new antenna & install. That looks clean & smooth. Again very nice truck.

Truck looks great Dean. I'll have to catch it on another one of our MS meeting. Won't be able to invade Jackson on the 3rd, the boss already has some sort of plans for me.
