Better Shocks and Leaf Springs For my 1972 c20
Hi all
I want to keep the ride height on my 1972 c20 but would like a better ride. Someone suggested Blistein shocks and if some knows the part number for my truck it would be great. And if someone could suggest decent leaf springs also and coils for the front it would greatly be appreciated. I want to run 265 or 285s.Thanks in advance!! |

Re: Better Shocks and Leaf Springs For my 1972 c20
I posted on your other thread in Blazer and Jimmy section.
What are your goals with the truck? Do you need to maintain the 3/4 ton truck capabilities? I know in the other thread you talked removing the overload. If I was looking to improve the unloaded ride in a C20 and not concerned about maintaining GVWR, I would look for a 1/2 ton donor to get the lighter duty springs from. Front and rear. Eaton Detroit Spring can make new springs for you and tailor them to your needs. You just need to have a firm idea about what your goals are. And how far you want to open up your wallet....

Yeah it won't be hauling anything. I just want a better ride but want to maintain the ride height Mike. She was the original farm truck in our family. My dad bought it new in 72 with a 1 ton rear and spring pack. It was in the option sheet

if the Half ton springs in the rear are too low for you, then use a block to get back up to where you want. And if I remember you were going to remove the overload in your other post? That would lower it almost an inch as well.
On my old '70 C2500 GMC I used 1" lowering shackle to get it down just a little in the back. GVWR on it was max for the platform at 7500#. I've owned (3) other '70 GMC 3/4 tons I have taken apart, and none of them were rated to that level. One was 6200#, one #6600 and one that I have forgotten. All were leaf spring trucks.

I don’t, sorry. I think Rock Auto has them? Or they did.

Nope. They dont. Not specific for my truck. Another thread on here had a part.number for shock but they were for a coil spring truck. I dont know if they would be the same

You should be able to find dimensions of the stock shocks, and any good re-seller should be able to cross reference length, eye style and diameter, etc. for you. Most likely they are the same as the early square body shocks.
