Look for the number on the driverside back of the block and look it up here. www.mortec.com (you can look there first and get an idea of what kind of number you are looking for).

somewhere on the block will be a place that will have the last part of your vin# stamped on it making it unique to that truck. For intance on my 69 camaro it is next to where the oil filter goes the same deal on the trans not exactly sure where that spot is on the trucks

Removing the oil pan is the only way I know of telling.

Trust me I know the feeling! The arrow shows where it should be. A little oven cleaner and the wand at the car wash should clean it up enough to read.

If the casting numbers run the same as the L6s, "K 02 02" means the block was cast on November 2nd 1972. High probability it is the original engine in my uneducated opinion. No idea about "TJ2" though.

VINs were not stamped on truck engines until at least 1973. No trucks of the '67 - '72 era had the vehicle VIN # stamped on the engine. TJ2 is not a valid suffix code. The "2" should be a letter.

Eng Casted/Stamped date codes

Appears to me to be too late in 1972 for this to be in your truck...UNLESS: it was ordered/Built at a very late date. Wouldnt November/72 be the new 1973 Trucks offered to the public by then...

Yup, it is a '73 350. I would think the engine was swapped in at some point. It is possible that if your truck was built in very late '72 that it could be original. I am not sure how the roll out went with the new body style in '73, maybe they still built the old body style right up to the end of the year?

Suffix code.

K= Ontario 02=feb. not nov. 02 =ground hog day tjz = what BTNK wrote,
engine suffix code, very correct! A lot of Canadian blocks were a little lower compression wise. They still run real well, I have one. Please still check the
engine casting code in the location of the white arrow in the PIC. Than you will know the whole story. Sorry, the motor is not original, the engine year
has to preceed the model year . Going by everything I have read about the subject.

For comparison May check for the sticker on the drivers door that gives the truck manufacture date. A lot of times these are pealed or painted, should also have a vin that match if the door has not been swapped.

MOST (and I emphasize MOST) 4-bolt blocks of this era had a casting number that ended in "010" but some of these same blocks were also 2-bolt. 4-bolts are a zero advantage unless you are going to regularly turn in excess of 6000 rpm

Mike's feb 72 date seems to match to the truck date of 03/72. Have to have the motor to make the truck.
LMC catalog list a few of the engine codes and the only one that I see, that may be close is VJZ - 350 for 71-72. Might double check one more time before digging in the grease at the back for the casting numbers.

From mortecs website

3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4

Which BTW is the same casting as mine.
