Question Which gas cap, vented or not?

How do I tell which gas cap I need for my 72 K5 Blazer. Vented or not? Anyone know the GM part number?
Thanks.

Re: Which gas cap, vented or not?

I think it depends on the year and whether it's vented at the tank or the cap. You can probably run a vented on either. I think it's mainly an emissions control issue. May not be a good idea to run a non vented cap on a non vented tank though. Someone could prob chime in who knows more about the reasoning behind the vented cap.

How do I tell if and where the Blazer tank is vented? I'm lost on this one.

Re: Which gas cap, vented or not?

72 isn't vented. The fumes are pulled into the engine and burned.

72 had a charcoal canister in front of one inner fender and a gas line and vapor line running from the tank to the canister. The canister is maybe 6" diameter by 10" high made of black plastic.

Thus, 72 wouldn't use a vented cap when new.

Lots of the parts were tossed over the years...

This is the wrong year, and isn't right, but it has pics of the general look of the canister...

Thanks. It all makes sense now.
