Engine Parts

Hello, Anybody out there ever deal with MABBCO for engine kits/parts? Just doing some research for an engine build and want to know if they're a decent outfit. Thanks

Re: Engine Parts

Duke, read that stuff carefully. mabbco is like the poster child for bad work and worse customer service. Their warranty is a joke, you pull the bum engine at your expense and ship it back to them at your expense. Then they declare that the problem was caused by some unspecified improper installation and blow you off. You end up with no engine and no money. You would have to pay to have the trashed engine shipped back and what for?

Read carefully to see how they hide behind their lawyer written warranty.

Re: Engine Parts

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to hear. In this internet-based world we live in its hard to separate the good from the bad. With that said, I'd welcome recommendations on "good" suppliers of engine kits/parts. Have a couple projects I'm planning and want to know who to go to when I'm ready. Thanks!

Re: Engine Parts

Not sure what engine you're looking for but a fresh crate 350 (SBC) can be had from Sumitt for about 1500 shipped to your door. No core charge, of course You'll need to add intake, carb and other bolt on parts.

Re: Engine Parts

You might try your local GM dealer too. Used to be a base line 350 was about 1500 for long block. Or here is a cool option....

Re: Engine Parts

It's worth it to download the Chevy performance catalog. http://www.chevrolet.com/performance.html

As OrrieG said you can find a pretty respectable crate motor at the local (you might have to drive a ways) Chevy performance dealership.
The Chevy dealer in Milton Freewater Oregon (20 miles or so from Walla Walla wa used to have a warehouse full of high performance crate motors ready to go.

As far as basic engine parts for a reasonable price I've had good luck with Northernautoparts.com

Wow, look at that price. !!@@!!

I can beat that by close to $10K and still make a buck. Yikes.

Re: Engine Parts

I got my GM 350 crate on Ebay/JEGS last year for $1259.00. They don't advertise this once a year sale - you just have to watch the auction until it happens - otherwise, it's 1500-1550.

Good base for building it the way you want it. Not a horsepower monster, but with a roller cam/rockers & some head work it make plenty power for me on reg gas.
