Question About Removing Starter

I need to pull the starter on one of my trucks to get it rebuilt. I didn't realizie what a huge pain the starter was to get at. To top it all off, the truck is also sitting on some soft ground, which makes it hard to lift it. So, I'm working a little blind here, somewhat by feel. Can somebody confirm for me what all connections there are holding the starter in. It looks and feels like three connections to the solenoid. One larger plug type connector, which I can't see at all, and two terminal connections. The starter body itself looks like it's held on by two bolts going up through the bottom and a bolt on the front of the starter body that holds it to a support bracket of some type. Does this sound about right?

Re: Question About Removing Starter

2 -3 bolts hold to the bell housing and about 4 wires on the solenoid

Re: Question About Removing Starter

well, I dont think there are any connectors , but rather nuts that hold on a couple of eyelet terminals, You should have the main terminal 5/8" socket, but before you touch that with a socket you need to disconnect the negative battery, and if you had a sheet of plywood or equivelant , lay it down and put your jack on it , to climb under it to access the other items, which will be an inside terminal, but you might want to drop the two bolts 9/16" headed bolts and hold with one hand while you are taking wires loose, easier acces if the starter is tilted to gain better access, or you can finagle them out other wise, yes there is another bracket that supports the starter , it usually has a 7/16" headed bolt , usually close to the right engine mount, You may not have the inside wire on solenoid if H.E.I equiped, that is a bypass wire that sends full 12 volts to ign. upon cranking... good luck

Re: Question About Removing Starter

Here's a couple pics for you.
Two small nuts hold on the small wires. One large nut holds on the large wire from the battery.

Two bolts hold the starter on. The one is a little hidden by the tranny lines but I think you can see it.
