What is it worth??

Hello,
I don't hang out here much as I am usually in the 67-72 section of this great place, but really need your help.

I am considering buying the following truck, and I do not have pictures yet sorry!

85 GMC 2wd 1500 Short Wide, (143K on body) rebuilt 305, 350 trans (25 K), high seirra trim with every option possible, but has rubber floor mats & a 2:73 rear axle

It has PS, PB, tilt, cruise, air, PW, PL, clock, 15 x 8 ralleys....etc
Midnight blue, with blue interior, very clean body that has been touched up on the corner caps but the front clip, doors, rockers, floor, cab supports and box are mint. The truck came from SC and has been saved from these Michigan winters.

It does need tires and exhaust from the cat back, mechanically needs nothing, runs and drives excellent.

Without pictures, please let me know a rough estimate.

Thanks Everyone

To me, without any pics, that sounds like it could get 3500 to 4500. Maybe even a little more. How much are they asking?

Sounds very similar to the '84 SWB I just sold here in PA. Mine was a rust free AZ Silverado w/190k miles, had some minor dents inside and outside the bed, a dented fender, a dented door, dented bumper, the A/C didn't work, windows were slow, side window seals were hard, the tilt column was shot, but it had a 25k mile rebuilt stock 350/TH350 instead of the 305. Ran great. Overall looked good from 25 feet if you kinda squinted and used your imagination. It really needed a paint job, carpet, tires, front brakes and cat back exhaust system. Would have cost about $2500 to bring it back to a "nice" truck, if I painted it myself.

I got the full asking price of $2200 and he didn't even test drive it. Should have asked a little more, I guess.

if you sell it immediately, it was too cheap, if it doesnt sell for more than a month you're asking too much...

Around here car dealers ask around $4,500. That is why I would not buy one of these from a dealer. In the paper anywhere from $1,500-to endless. Most around $3,000 like you describe. What is he (or she) wanting for the truck. I paid $2,000 for my '86 swb about two months ago but it needed some minor work. The guy was asking $2,995. But pointing out the little things wrong (and I check everthing) that I would have to fix, he came down to what I offered him. Check everthing out and point out the little things you will have to fix. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I talked to him over the weekend again and snapped some pictures. However, after reading this I will not bother to post them, b/c he is WAY to high on his price according to everyone here. He wants 5000 and I am not a huge fan of the 305 anyway. If sb400 sold his for 2200, I will wait and look for a deal like that! I have to many trucks anyway, so thanks again everyons for the input and saving me some $$$$.
