REZ and CPP adapter plate question

I am going to be doing a power steering conversion on my 66 2wd c10 soon. I read somewhere maybe even a different board that the REZ and CPP plates had different width of spacers. Can anybody verify this? What is the correct width away from the frame the steering box needs to be? I don't want to get one that causes undo stress. Thanks.

get one from Captainfab here on this site. he is a vender and his comes with a templet.

110% agree with this!!! Captinfab's plate is SO much better and it doesn't require you to drill out the threads in the lower mounting boss on the steering box.

The thing is I have a chance to get a plate for basically free, just the work to get it off the wrecked truck. I don't know who made it but it looks of decent quality. If anybody knows I was simply wondering what the width is from frame to steering box mounting surface. If this plate is not correct I don't want to use it.

I agree, however I purchased mine around 25 years ago from REZ and it has held up very well and was what I needed at the time. Get it since it is free, then show some pix, that way Captn can als give his $.02

I'm running an REZ plate on my 1960 GMC. The plate is 1/8" thick, and the upper rear spacer is 1/2", so the space between the frame and the steering box is 5/8" at the upper rear mount as shown. This is looking straight down from above, as I have no inner fenders:



I would have photographed it with a ruler in place but I didn't have a third hand available.

One downside of the REZ design (and perhaps others) being one of the holes in the steering box requires drilling the threads out. If you keep the truck long enough to wear out the box and need a replacement, the original is ruined and cannot be turned in for the core charge because of the drilled threads. I put mine in over 20 years ago when it was the only thing on the market, so my options were somewhat limited!

Thanks that's what I was wondering. Also, is the spacing the same for all four holes?

I can only see two more spacers easily, and they "appear" to be the same length. I don't have any practical way to measure them as there are too many things in the way. You may also find interest in this thread:

REZ plates were originally red and CCP's are black if that helps you I.d. what you may have

All four of the mounting bosses on the steering box are on the same plane. My adapter plates space the steering box bosses out 9/16" from the frame. You might want to get the steering box also since it will be already drilled out for the CPP or REZ adapter plate.
