SSBC Disc Brake Conversion

I'm thinking about doing a rear disc brake conversion. Has anyone used SSBC's kit? It's a bit pricey, but looks like a good quality set-up.

Re: SSBC Disc Brake Conversion

That's what I plan to use on my '87. I too would like some review on the kit.

Re: SSBC Disc Brake Conversion

Joe said it in a nutshell. You need a disc/disc master cylinder and a disc/disc combination valve to make this work correctly. It will not work right using your old stuff. You just as well add another 250.00 to 300.00 to this price to get the right parts. Although I've never seen the SSBC parts in person, if you ask me it looks pretty flimsy. When I did mine all the kits you could buy looked this way. That's the reason I built my own.

If you can locate someone local to you who can laser cut the brackets it will be a ton easier than the way I did it.

Re: SSBC Disc Brake Conversion

The rear conversion kit was fine. But like Swervin said, if I had to do it over again I'd probably have the rear brackets made locally. They aren't as flimsy as they look, but I'd feel better about the price of the kit if they were a little nicer.

The kit went on VERY easy and there were no problems what so ever with the rear kit. But as others have said you'll need to redo the master cylinder/ prop valve. I'm doing hydroboost with the CPP MC with built in proportioning valve.

The "big brake" kit for the front was another story...it's all on now...but not as "bolt-on" as they make it sound.

I'm in the process of gathering all the pieces I need to overhaul the suspension/brakes on my truck. Thanks for the info.
