NC state question, plus I am back in the fold.

Hey guys,

Been inactive at posting for a while, but anyway I'm back in the fold. I just picked up a 68 c10 shortbed. My late brother had one when I was a kid and I always wanted to do one after he passed and found a good truck to do so. Here's the situation for the question:

The truck is legit in every way... All numbers- frame, Title, Vin tag, and glovebox match. The thing is, is that the PO from Va. took of the VIN tag and "safety"(?) tag off the door jamb. I have both of the tags, they are just off. I live in NC and I have had to deal with the DMV-Theft/Antique inspectors before, so I know how they can be tricky to deal with. I am asking if I should tell them and they tell me what to do (hopefully not a bond), or find some rosettes and reattach them?

Just looking for some sound advice from NC'ers out there. Thanks in advance.

Attach them back on before you go to dmv a lot less hassle

If all you are doing is registration/title, they should not need to see the truck, that is all just paperwork at the plate office.

Are there some special circumstances?

I would definitely put the vin back on before you get driving around in it.

Re: NC state question, plus I am back in the fold.

I've bought a couple old cars w/ out of state titles and they always sent those guys to check out the numbers. I had a Triumph Stag w/ a Va. title and they had to come look at it. How many people are gonna register a stolen Stag... There are maybe 8k of them left if not less. PITA. I'm not originally from NC, so I was used to less bureaucracy I guess.

I have never run into that....but I havent registered anything old from out of state either...maybe thats why they had to look at it?

Put the VIN back on and roll the dice, if they are worth their salt, they will see everything is good by matching up the SPID, VIN, and frame.

True Slow-1. I mean as you see I'm not being shifty, just want the least amount of trouble. I need to find some rosettes I guess.

Re: NC state question, plus I am back in the fold.

So I have been searching here and on the net. I found seller postings here, but they were too old I think or they were told to desist. The rosettes easiest found online for sale are the black Mopars. Will these work, eg. take the black off? It seems everyone wants a big chunk of change for these things. Anyone have any clues where to get em? Thanks
