Well, just got back from the upholstery shop. I talked to him about covering the dash, door panels, Q-Logic kick panels, sunvisors, all the trim pieces (a pillars, b pillars and headliner trim), even putting a piece above the speaker box to cover up the white metal.

The only thing that bothers me is how the dash may end up looking. Still waiting on the pic from Captkaos, hint, hint. Everything will be done in top stitch where it has to have it. I'm still not sure but thinking about it.

Now the price. He first said $800.00. I then said, the hell you say. Then he laughed and said, for you, since you have already had a bunch of stuff done, I'll do it for $600.00. Still a lot of money. What do all of you folks think? Should I go for it? Does this sound like a fair price for what I'm wanting to have done.

As you all know, I do value your opinions.

That's alot of work and materials for just $600. I think it's worth it if that's what you want your interior to look like. However, I really like your interior the way it is. Just my .02.

Take note that this is coming from a guy that has a very pitiful interior.

Mike, $600 sounds fair, but I think your interior looks more than fine the way it is. Why not spend the $600 on your paintjob?

If it were me, I would skip it and spend it on the exterior.

Not only that, but I (like you) am skeptical of how the dash will look covered.

Just my .03...now i am broke!

only reason I'm even thinking about it is because of the material I used to cover my console and speaker box don't match. I love this material, can't remember the name, but it looks like leather. It don't look bad the way it is, with the plastic door panels and all. Just don't match. I agree, it is a lot of work and material.

As I've said, this will take some more thought. I won't jump into this one for sure. Because once it's done, it can't come back off. The stuff is glued on and whatever is under it will not be useable.

Decisions, decisions. Hmmmm.....what to do.

I'm pretty sure you've figured out by now, I'm real close to being a perfectionest. Not one, but close. Things like this get on my mind and worry the crap out of me.

I do agree, I need to start thinking about paint. It's real close for this to start. I just want to get all this small stuff took care of before getting to the paint. The kind of paint job I want, no way I want to risk damaging it doing other silly junk.

I plan on thinking about this for awhile. No quick decisions this time. It would be a real costly mistake if I didn't like it.

I think $600 is a good price for the amount of work to be done and for work to be done by a quality upholstery shop.

Mike...that is a pretty good price for the work involved and all.

I would stay away from covering the dash, I dont think you will like the stitching on it.

As for the rest..I say go for it. The other looks great, Im sure it will too.

I've been mulling this over for a little today. I faintly remember seeing a pic of a dash somewhere that had been covered. I didn't like the stitching look then. Top stitch looks good on seats and stuff, heck, this is how some cars are being built today. The more I think about what he told me on the dash, and the way he would need to do it, the more I'm turned off by it. I for sure think the door panels and other stuff would look good, but then the dash would stick out like a sore thumb, you know?

I need to sleep on this for awhile. I do my best thinking while I'm asleep.

No, no way to do it without the stitching, unless, I use some kind of twead or such. The way our dashes are made, especially around the gauge cluster, there has to be a seam with vinyl. He said the only places it would have to be are on the right hand side of the cluster and on the right hand end of the dash pad. Then he tells me where the VIN tag hole is, with the defrost vent mixed in is sort of crappy looking. He said he's done two dashes like this, one was in a 85 Burb he has. It was in the shop somewhere getting worked on so I couldn't see it.

But, for a nice balanced look, instead of just doing these small places, he recommends doing around the entire cluster edge. I wish I could see his dash in the Burb. Maybe I'll ask him where it's at so I can take a look at it. Pics on the net are hard to use as a judgement call on something like this.

i don't like the dash idea at all. i think it would look cheesy IMHO. the door panles and such would look alright though. i personaly would leave it like it is

I prefer stock interiors too. Now trying to discourage anyone who wants the custom look, but I've rarely seen a custom interior that looked "right". Many times I see little things that maybe didn't come out as well as they expected and it makes the interior look kinda cheesy.

Mike, I've looked at the pics of your interior with the console installed, and I think it looks great. It's not like the factory colors and textures of these interiors were that perfect anyhow, I'd stick with what you have. $600 seems like a lot to spend to make something "a little" better.

My 2 cents.

Now that you have made your decision Mike, I will say that it was probably smart of you to save that 600 to put towards your $$$$4000 paint job. At least thats what they charge up here to do 'em right. Some day I will get some of my pics of my mint condition CA Silv. (and what happened to it) and my "New" AZ Silv. with tired a** paint, motor,etc. I still haven't recovered from that one. Either mentally or Financially. The good news is my new 350 may go in over the holidays ($2500) and then on to the PAINT$$$$$ I will have about $6000 into it by the time it is all said and done. Since I am a stone mason I am not worried about the interior (If you saw mine you would probably puke) but I do like my trucks to look good on the outside at least. At least outside the bed that is.

Did someone say tweed?

A friend of mine does tweed and had an 81 or mayeb an 84, I can never remember. Well anyway he did his interior in tweed and even had a raised bowtie in the tweed on the dash. It all looked very good, except that the drivers door panel got worn down alot kinda fast because he always put his dirty arm there.

Anyway have any good pictures of some tweed interior? Also anyone have any pictrues of a tv mounted where the center air duct is (over ash tray). I have been thinking that when I do my interior I might have a friend mold a tv right there, since I dont have an A/C truck anyway.

On the LCD screen in the dash, yes Brad2's old blue truck has one done like that and I am either doing that or building a console like MIkes with a Screen Where his head unit is.

Damn, I saw one in a Truckin or Sport Truck mag a few months back...I think it was in a Burb or Blazer. IMO it didn't look all that good, I mean it looked nice but kind of out of place if you know what i mean.
