castle nut size and threads
While repackaging wheel bearings I noticed the threads on the castle nut are shot and I need to replace it. The local parts stores don't carry them and they don't the size or thread size. Can any one help. I want to get a die to chase the threads and a source for getting a new one. Thanks

Re: castle nut size and threads
It should be pretty easy to get a new one. Dorman probably has a replacement. I would try RockAuto.com

I would think any front-end shop would have an old coffee can full of them.

Re: castle nut size and threads
1/2 ton? 3/4"-20
Very common Chevy castle nut. Not so common thread, you won't find a die unless you get the spindle rethreading set avail. I don't remember if I bought my die set at Harbor Freight or maybe online, it's a set of dies for all the spindle threads normally used. Pretty much all Chevy cars and light trucks use the 3/4"-20 nuts, pre-metric. Dorman 615-065

Re: castle nut size and threads
I forgot to check the grade on the one I found. It was in the self help section at the part store. I had to order a die though.

Re: castle nut size and threads
Thanks guys. Sometimes the smallest jobs like repacking wheel bearings can go south fast if you dont have the information or the right tools. My new dies will be here tommorow to clean and chase the threads. Thats what makes this site so great. People helping people. Thanks again.
