which mainfolds?

I am swapping a 5.3/4l60E into a 1987 Chevy 4x4. I used the dirty dingo adjustable mounts and was wondering what manifolds you guys would recommend? I have the truck manifolds but do not want to notch the frame? I have read about the ls3 and ls1 manifolds but have no experience with either...do some have the front O2 bungs in them? Any info is greatly appreciated...

Re: which mainfolds?

Trailblazer SS (ls2) manifolds fit most applications, as do some of the Doug Thorley swap headers (I think they have one for 4x4 but check their website). LS1 tubular manifolds from like the 98 fbodies fit some applications, but the truth is that the exact fitment depends on more than one factor.

Your year/frame affect it, as does which style motor mounts and perches you use, and/or if you set the engine back or forward. Not to mention the clearance to the ears on the bellhousing.

The above is a start, but since I see your newer you might find a huge wealth of resources have already been posted/discussed with pictures and all that good stuff. If you take a look at the Builds section at the top, and the FAQ, there are some nice parts lists/costs/pictures etc throughout. It definately takes a while to look through all the builds but some of the best info and pics are buried in them. If you have a hard time finding what ur looking for, or are impatient like me, try using our search functions. The "search this thread" lets you look in just the LSx section, and should get you to what you want once you find the right terms.

Re: which mainfolds?

im using tbss pacesetter headers, and i dont think they'd clear the 4wd transfer case on the passenger side. why not notch the frame though? seriously, it takes like 10 minutes.

Re: which mainfolds?

2010 camaro manifolds will fit with just a minor touch of grinding the frame. I notched maybe 1/8 inch and that was just because I wanted a little more clearance.

Re: which mainfolds?

Thanks for the quick replies gents. After test fitting the truck manifolds again it looks like the pasenger side may clear. I think this is because my the of the adjustable mounts and the motor sitting further to the rear. Is there anything I should watch out for if the motor is further back than norm? I plan to use top mount a/c, p/s issues maybe? Thx

That is what I am using also, and for a bonus I slid the engine back on my DD mounts until the trans linkage and drive shaft fit in the right spot !
I think my 78 SWB is the same as yours
