'47-'51 3100 Hanging Pedals Puzzle

I want to hang my pedals from the firewall. What are some popular junk yard pedal assemblies that have been used that reach the dash for added support?

ALSO: I want to use a clutch cable to the 216 bellhousing to actuate the fork instead of the stock setup or a hydro setup (I have NO setup - this is a from scratch build) and I thought I saw a post on someone who did so.

Can anyone give me some direction in using a clutch cable in this application?

mustangs used cable setup for clutch. small trucks and cars have nice hanging pedals. why not use hyd. setup like the 4x4 guys do.

I have used pedals from 70-81 camaro.
Just the brake pedal/booster and gas pedal. Never needed the clutch

The Mustang is a good choice as it has a semi-auto adjusting cam for tension adjustment. You will need to modify the mount and extend the pedal arms. I used a '91 on my Cobra kit. I think anything you get will need some modification. Speedway motors also sells some universal options.

I used the brake pedal assembly from a 78 C-20. My truck is a 48 GMC on the 78 C-20 chassis/drive train(350SBC/TH400). Almost a perfect fit from firewall to bottom lip of dash panel. Using the OEM steering column/wheel. No pics, sorry.

I am using the pedal set up out of a newer s10, and its light weight. I can take a picture of it mounted if your interested in see it

you can use just about anything, old forklift,front wheel drive vehicles... your gonna modify it to your needs. i'm sure you know someone with junk vehicle sitting that has free one just waiting for you to unbolt it.

Well right...obviously. But better, easier and cheaper to find out what people have already successfully used. I'm really looking for n assembly that's long enough to go from firewall to dash.

Well if you are bent on hanging that ugly booster on the firewall and running a cable linkage I'd say start with vehicles that have cable clutch linkage.

You do realize that you will have to run the cable around so that it pulls the clutch to the rear and will most likely need a longer cable? They don't push a clutch arm very well. That is going to mean that most likely you will have to have a cable custom made that is long enough to go from the pedal and down and loop around to work the clutch. You might rig a bell crank to work the clutch from the front but that will take some extra engineering to work out.

personally I think that a hydraulic clutch setup would be a a lot simpler to set up. Late 90's small pickups often have hydraulic clutches and the pedals to go with them

By the way, I say that those boosters and master cylinders on the firewall are ugly because I had one hanging on my firewall for several years and hated the fact that it was the first thing you saw every time you opened the hood and blocked the view of half of the left side of the engine that I had worked on pretty hard to get it to look nice. It really worked good though, I'll say that.

I can appreciate that. But this isn't going to be a show truck. The 235 isn't going to be freshly painted, etc. It's really going to be a functional truck with a well patina'd body. Function will go before form in some situations and I may use a smaller booster or a hydroboost if I can find on that'll work from a different vehicle.

I had to chuckle at this because when I added my hanging pedal and power brakes to my AD I went and got the whole setup out of a '63 Buick at the wrecking yard....yeah this was a few years ago. LOL

Now, I would do ANYTHING to put it under the floor so there isn't anything on the firewall.

you will have to excuse all the dust, I left a door open the other day when I was doing some paint striping with the wire wheel. ok here is a couple pictures of the set up I have. its out of a 2001 S10, and it uses the hydraulic clutch. and it also allows my steering wheel to be bolted to it, so I don't have an extra bracket for holding up the steering

Jyman - thank you for taking the time to share these pictures. They give me some good ideas for my Suburban build. Built my black truck with power brakes under the floor so the firewall was clean. Might sound lazy...I got tired of lifting my leg to step on the brakes. Couldn't do a heel and toe. So thinking seriously about a firewall mount for the Burb.

Oh your welcome, I thought about going under the floor with the brakes but felt it would be to much trouble for me to check fluids and also the muscle memory. and the brake and clutch ended up so far away from the firewall because I'm a tall guy over 6 foot, and I need all the room I could get could get with the stock seat. Also the stock hydraulic clutch from the S10 just gets to the location I have it at.

Just for talk here, I thought it was going to be a big deal with my master cyl under the floor on my daily driver too. But how often do we REALLY check it? And if your system is all new, you can see under the car, look at the backing plates or calipers and you can see a leak pretty easy. I check my fluid every year and have to unscrew the sill plate and lift up the carpet to find perfection, not one drop low. I have learned it's not a big deal at all.

i'm with martinsr on this. i'd do (and did) anything to keep the firewall clean.
03 mustang hydroboost mounted under floor with nissan quest remote reservoir
i could have been a little more creative locating the remote reservoir
i had so much brake pedal i cut 3'' off the pedal, at 6'4'' i have enough leg room
