Post brake lights

I just noticed today that my rear brake lights arent working. Both of them are out. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks.

Check the bulbs first. Then you have your choice of wires, the mounts that the bulbs are in or the brake switch that the wires go thru. Good luck, and let us know what you find. Jeff.

Do your turn signals work? If so, the bulbs, grounds, and chassis wires are all good, and the trouble will be in the cab.
Check the fuse,
the switch and plug on the pedal,
the 1/2 moon connector at the bottom of the column (yes, it goes in there too)
After all this, and still no brake lights, then it gets REAL fun.

1.check fuse 2. check bulbs 3. using a test light check to see if you have power going into the socket. If no power then check the switch on your brake pedal and connections, if power make sure there is a good ground from socket.
If your turn/tailights work the ground is good.

Thanks guys. The brake lights were working fine about a week ago. Also, the turn signals do work. I think the problem might be in the cab. I'll check it tomorrow. thanks.

One thing I noticed on my truck is that the connections in the socket are worn down and/or dented in. I need a brand new fresh 1157 bulb with it's raised connections not worn at all to make my LR turn signal stay lit. I just swapped in a new one a week ago. I also have a glove box full of working 1157 bulbs that don't work in my truck.

If you have power back there and you are still scratching your head, try a BRAND NEW bulb.

Does anybody sell new sockets?

is turn signals are working...therefor, he is getting power to the bulb on that side of the bulb, it just isn't being sent to it from the brake pedal.
