Re: can some one tell me what straight six came from 60-66 chevy trucks...

I know the big 292 straight six was available in the '64-'66 Chevy C10/C20/C30/K10/K20 trucks. I am not sure what the cid on the smaller straight six was and which years. This book is a good reference manual:

http://www.amazon.com/Chevrolet-Pick.../dp/0879388765

I have a copy and it is a good read. Many bookstores and aftermarket truck suppliers sell it, including

www.lmctruck.com
www.classicparts.com
www.oldchevytrucks.com
www.bowtiebits.com
www.brotherstrucks.com

I hope this helps and gets you headed in the right direction.

Tony

Re: can some one tell me what straight six came from 60-66 chevy trucks...

Looks like we need to get specific about model.

The following is an excerpt from a Chevy truck history page at http://www.chevytrucks.org/resources...evy_trucks.htm

Major engineering changes for 1963 included replacing the light-duty model's torsion bar front suspension with coil springs and replacing the former standard six cylinder engine family with all new 230 cubic inch and 292 cubic inch sixes. The former 235.5 and 261 cubic inch sixes remained the standard engines for K10 and K20 pickups only. A restyled grille freshened up all pickup's front appearances.

The most significant improvement for 1964 was the change from the dogleg windshield to the conventional curved type. It provided easier entrance and exits for driver and passengers and looked much better too. The 230 and 292 six cylinder engines continued as the standard engines for all 2 wheel drives and beginning in 1964 for all 4 wheel drive pickups also. The 235.5 and 261 sixes were dropped. The 283 cubic inch V-8 remained optional for all C/K pickups. The El Camino returned after a four year absence. It was built on the Chevelle's 115-inch wheelbase chassis.

Hmmm...I've always been told that '62 (car and truck) was the last year for the 235? Interesting...

I did too until I saw rick's post with the 235 in the 63 4x4's.

one last thing the 250 is a better engine and a better intake manifold the 292 was a 1 peace intake and they all ways cracked thats why the 292 are getting hard to run the intake most people go to the offanhouser 4bb intake alum intake

Re: can some one tell me what straight six came from 60-66 chevy trucks...

I always thought that the new 230-250 engines came out with the new 64 body style. My buddy back in the day had a '63 C-10 Longstep that seemed to be a virgin truck and it had a 235 in it. Maybe its a transition year thing where some things from the last year still carried over. I ain't sure...

55dude, you are correct. The 292 did come out in '63. I have one that came stock in my '65 C-20. As to the 250 being a superior engine to the 292, I ain't buying that...

Re: can some one tell me what straight six came from 60-66 chevy trucks...

The 292 did not have an integrated head. If I remember correctly, it was the 250 that had a 1 piece head, and that was in the 70s. The 292 is just as good a motor as any 250.
