Anyone out there used a Uhaul trailer to transport one of these trucks...im speaking of the full length trailer...Will they even fit on one?

I hauled my SWB on one from Phoenix to Santa Maria It just barely fit so I doubt a LWB would fit

I am positive there was a picture posted of a Grapefruit LWB on the Uhaul trailer...I remember someone making a remark like "the guys at Uhaul said that my truck wouldn't fit on that trailer..." It was a thread about rare paint colors, or something like that...I'll look for it.

I hauled a SWB 69 from LA to Fort Irwin a few years back. I used the newer U-HAUL trailer. My truck barely fit width-wise. I think I had P275/60's back then. But it worked.

What ever you do, don't tell them you are hauling a full size truck. They won't rent it to you unless you have a trucks twice that size to tow it.

Unless your going one way, it's much better to rent a "real car hauler trailer from a local trailer rental place.

I agree with N2TRUX...But whatever you do you got to keep safety as #1 concern. One can pull a truck a lot easier than to stop a pulled truck.

It depends on your area, but I have rented an 18' dove tail with slide out ramps for 100.00 for the weekend. It had trailer brakes so stopping was no problem.

I'd say that pretty much answers it.

The u-haul trailer should have a tongue brake.

I hauled mine on a plain 16' flat bed trailer with no trailer brakes and had no problem at all. You have to drive cautiously of course no matter how you pull it.

Years ago when I moved from IL to NM, I rented a truck car trailer and from U-Haul. The guy at the rental place even helped me load my '72 C20 on it. Even while I was there I asked him if that trailer would haul the truck, cause the truck was hanging over the back, and he reassured me that it was fine. Out near Colorado Springs somewhere, the trailer's brakes caught fire coming down a hill. Hopped out with the fire extingusher, doused the flames and was able to get the truck off with out too much damage. U-haul sends a rep out and the first thing he does is tell me that it's my fault for trying to haul that big of a truck and that I would have to pay for damages to the trailer. I just laughed at him and told him that his U-haul store is the one that loaded the truck on there, and that THEY would be paying for damages to my truck if there were any. It ended up they paid for all my families meals and lodging for three days and to have one side of the truck repainted. So even if they do rent it to you, I would be very wary of using it on a longbed.

Sounds good..but im not sure where I would find something like that in my area...or where to start looking...any thoughts?

That will be an issue on any trailer. You can still load it you'll just have to improvise a little bit like backing the trailer up to a high spot somewhere.

no, I did not read all the previous responses.... it's too late and the cowboys gave the game away.... but.... I hauled my 71 gmc on a Penske trailer..... forget what I told them I was hauling........ my tires got messed up a little.... 10" wide wheels with 265/50 and 295/50...

I have hauled a long fleet side bed truck on what uhaul calls an auto transport. It is their version of a car trailer...they are actually very nice trailer to pull, they have serge brakes, pulled the truck behind my 07 expedition without a lick of trouble. The long wheel base truck fits with about a foot to spare. I told them what I was hauling and they had no problem with it. If you can make the trip in less than 24 hours, I would suggest doing the rental by the day...with insurance it us about $60.00, yes you have to tow the trailer both ways and cost a little more for fuel, but the one way rental is usually quite a bit higher...in most instances it is cheaper to return it where you rented it...they don't care how many miles you pull it as long as you get it back before the 24 hour period ends.

Someone posted to take care in picking your loading/ unloading location...if it is lowered alot I would agree, the ramps aren't that steep on level ground so should not be too much of an issue. I use these trailers all the time...cost alot less than owning your own!

I`ve been known to slip stock tires and wheels on a truck to fit a trailer better.Just the fronts,because the trailer was always the proper size.I like dollies as long as the vehicle is road worthy.Trailers are definately best.But,a dolly saves alot of haul weight.

Was your truck lowered? and did it have stock wheels or custom?

The U-haul trailers are nice We hauled a big block ford camper special on one. Bearly fit but we got it on there. They have the fold down fenders so you can open your doors maybe not your doors since its lowered. Loading it shouldnt be a problem just back the trailer in a ditch or hole so you can drive it straight on or find longer ramps.

I prefer My trailer. 16ft dovetail built low to the ground so hauling lowered or big trucks is not a big deal. Last trip with it was 3300 miles. Heres a pic.

My trailer has been probably the best investment ever made its got just about as many miles on it as my truck. I haul 4 wheelers alot also and those dont even require ramps. I just drive it up on it.
