Factory style seat upholstery?

Does anyone make a reproduction factory style and material seat cover for the custom cab seat? All the parts books I see sell the same two color non original covers.

Re: Factory style seat upholstery?

It's $90/yard from SMS.

To my knowledge, no one makes a complete repro cover.

Re: Factory style seat upholstery?

Ok, this subject comes up often enough that there is obviously a reasonable demand for an "original style" kit. Can anyone give me a good explanation as to why nobody reproduces seat covers for our trucks? I believe all the materials are available either NOS or repro (or both), so why no pre-sewn kits?
If I had any clue on how to do it myself, I'd do it, but it would seem simple enough for an already established kit manufacturer to add this line to their catalog. The money is there for the taking. Anyone?

Re: Factory style seat upholstery?

The zig zag springs and coil springs tend to relax after a few decades use.
New springs are available online.

Firm foam is also available online.

Didn't see 66 OEM Dupont vinyl pattern on SMS site (I didn't call).

I agree with you, you would think by now kits should be readily available. I'm just passing on what I've heard here now, is that you have to call about the material but they do have it was my understanding. As to why a kit is not offered is any bodies guess, Grizz the bro from UK said these trucks were
cinderella trucks if you get the meaning. I think someday there will be a kit offered when they see the $$$ to be made from it..Vernski

Agreed also, who are the shot callers in the repro world? Any on this board? 64-65 same, 66 slightly different. Majority of all 64-66 Chevy truck owners would benefit, custom seat was optional on standard cab trucks also.60 thru 63 were more numerous changes to the seat, but still deserving of representation. IMO, the seat cover offered today is a joke, what were they thinking. Right now if you are serious about doing a correct seat, you are forced to buy different pieces of material on your own from a supplier and have someone stitch it up. My guess is the repop people haven't been taking these trucks seriously enough.

Re: Factory style seat upholstery?

I think a better seat cover could be made by a smaller company, rather than a big company. If I was in a position to purchase a seat cover, I would contact this guy. Partly because he is not terribly far from me, and he seems to do good work. Maybe some of you guys that are wanting seat covers should get together and contact this guy. He is already making them for the '67-'72's

Re: Factory style seat upholstery?

I am in the process of trying to find material for my 66 deluxe seat. Cant seem to find the original material. Called 3 places and no one has the original anymore. Trying to find a suitable alternative. My seat guy doesn't have enough choices in his fabric collection. Anyone have any solid leads on something close? I have a sample coming my way from SMS, but i don't think they have the dark color we need for the 66 deluxe set.

Re: Factory style seat upholstery?

Yeah, I want a custom seat cover as well.

And not to change the subject but, how about some accurate repro bed sides.

Someone start a what we need repro'd sticky to get the word out about how us 60-66 guys are getting the repro short-shrift on parts.

Re: Factory style seat upholstery?

SMS Auto Fabrics, Cloth 1966 Chevrolet Custom Sportvan Fawn "66-6434" This is almost a perfect match to the original material color to the 66 Deluxe seat cover. I just got a sample in from them on Mon. I will try to take a picture of this sample against my seat. I am working with a local upholsterer to make me a stock looking cover. It won't be finished until mid-june tho. I am trying to see if he will make me a couple of them. I will try to keep this thread going with some more pics soon. He won't be able to do the heat sealing as original in between the white stripe that goes across the top. I will try to come up with something close tho.

I assume we are all still waiting on some smart entrepreneur to start producing covers?
