How in the world to get a motor mount bolt back in?
On my 70 350 the forward most driver side bolt to the block fell out. I cannot for the life of me get a wrench, socket, anything in the space to get a bolt back in. Anyone have some advice?

I don't remember for sure but I think I used a 3/8 drive ratchet and a long 3/8" extension with a wobble head attached to the socket and came up from the bottom, I think...

Isn't that the bolt that makes it even more fun to get started because it has the power steering pump bracket attached to it??

You will have to remove the frame fasteners to engine mounts and raise engine some to install that bolt at steering pump bracket. before you lift engine beware of other parts you might have to unbolt--such as clutch bell crank tube to engine if you have it. don't have to raise engine very much. Good Luck

That one can be a *****. It's just as bad on cars, FWIW. Loosen the other two bolts, and the rest of the power steering fasteners, and give it the good fight. You'll need to fiddle it up and down on a jack (with a wood pad on the pan) to get it freed up enough to screw it in.

Yes, I fought with that bolt for 3 days after work. I finally threw the engine hoist after it and lifted the engine, then unbolted the motor perch and bolted it to the motor mount... the motor perch is easy to bolt back in because you can use an alignment pin to align the holes.
Moral of the story, bolt the motor mounts to the engine, bolt the PS pump to the engine, bolt the perches to the motor mounts, then bolt the whole mess to the frame, drink your preferred cold beverage. |

I thought the same, yet did not have much of a problem after a top end rebuild. I clean the **** out of everything.
Maybe thats why they go in so easy??? |
