When driving, get a squeak as the driveshaft rotates
I have a 1988 700r4 that I bought recently from a salvage yard. I replaced all seals, filter, installed the Transgo SK-700JR kit. Seems to shift and work great but I have this squeak. It's a 2-piece driveshaft (3 u-joints). I replaced the rear u-joint. Still squeaking. So I got the burn on jackstands, got underneath, shifted to N, and rotated the driveshaft by hand. It's definitely coming from the forward area. It could be the front u-joint but it really sounds like it's coming from the transmission tailshaft area. When I was resealing the trans I had the tailshaft housing off because I replaced its seal as well, and inspected the shaft, bushing, and speedo setup.
Still looking for the source of my sqeak.

Did you oil the shaft before you slide it in?
Also the center support bushings can squeak. |

More than likely its a uni joint thats dried out....if they have grease nipples, give each one a shot of grease until it comes out of the ross seals...
There is little chance the issue is inside the trans... I would also make sure the center bearing is not partially seized and noisy.....

I did lube the seal and the driveshaft before installing. Hard to type that without laughing. I should have lubed with trans fluid but I actually used petrolium jelly (vasoline)

The center u-joint and front u-joint do not have a grease nipple. I should have replaced them when I had the d.s. out but didn't. Now I'm trying to avoid removal again. Also, when doing all my suspension work I replaced the center support bearing with Inland Empire Driveline high impact polyeurothane unit. https://www.iedls.com/Our_Difference When I unbolt it and lift up the d.S. it spins very freely, without drag, resistance, or noise.
