GM HEI Distributor
I just picked up a used 350 GM HEI distributor that I want to replace my old points distributor with. The HEI distributor has 3 wires coming out of the base, red,brown and black. I know I have to run a hot ignition wire to the red wire, I think. But what about the brown and the black? What hooks into them?

The three wires coming out of the base plug into the cap. The cap has the terminal marked "batt" on it for your 12 volt source. You will need full 12 volts run from the ignition using a #10 wire. The
fuse panel has a terminal marked unfused ignition on it that you can use. Otherwise, remove the brass terminal from the original yellow resistor wire at the bulkhead connector and solder your #10 feed wire to it and plug it back in. Jim |

The 3 wires coming out of the base should have a plastic plug end, & plug right into the dist cap(they should only fit 1 way). You will also have 2 more places to plug wires......1 is for the hot to the dist, & the other for a tach(should be marked bat, tach on the cap). You will need to run a 10 or12 guage wire from IGN unfused in the fuse box to power the HEI. the original yellow wire on the soleniod, & white (cloth covered )resistor wire to the coil can be clipped out of the system. The 3 wires have no plug on them. Do the auto parts stores sell these plugs?

Pep boys parts stores in my area had replacement plugs a few years ago,of course there are millions in the junkyards.
