3 speed manual trans

1964 short step 230 I6. I having am having shifting problems. Truck was popping out of 3rd gear. As I am trying to adjust the linkage. Now for the dilemma, with all the linkage off I can get the 2-3 shifter fork to move, but not the 1-R even with the 2-3 in neutral. Any idea what I have done to cause this?
Thanks Larry

1st gear in non-synchronized in the factory trans if you still have the mc318. If you shift from 3rd into neutral....it should allow you to manually shift it into 1st.

Thank you again. That worked along with someone pressing on the clutch.

Re: 3 speed manual trans

I had a problem with my original 3-speed manual popping out of 3rd. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a linkage problem. I think it basically means the transmission is worn out, and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
