Talking Buying another one! 72 Cheyenne K20

I tried to resist, but failed miserably. I was looking at this same truck a year ago and got beat to the punch. 72 Cheyenne K20 with very low mile Jasper engines 383 stroker. Originally it was black w/ saddle tan, and that's what its going back to! This one will be my driver while I finish up the 70 C10. Hopefully next spring it'll be this one's turn for a facelift. Sounds like I'll be going to pick it up later this week...

(There's a few more pics in the link in my sig...)

Between me and my 15 year old son, I doubt it goes unused much!

You can't tempt me like that. My wife inflict serious bodily harm upon me if I go through another rig this year! This one was pushing it as it is!!!!

I'm actually pretty excited to have a longbox this time. Everyone one of these trucks that I've owned so far has been a shortbox of one sort or another. I still have the the 70 C10 SWB that I should be getting back from paint in the next week or so as well...

I may have a problem. But its like I keep telling my wife: At least it doesn't cause serious long term health issue like booze, drugs, or tobacco!

Thanks Bill! Doesn't look like I'm getting the 72 Super back anytime soon, so I decided to get the next best thing.

Re: Buying another one! 72 Cheyenne K20

Bought the truck today! I'll have to make a trip this weekend to pick it up, but I was in the area for work and he just met me with it where I'm staying. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. It does have a little more rust than I was hoping, but nothing that isn't easily cleaned up. It's plenty solid to serve as a driver for now, and there's nothing to difficult to patch up when the time comes to repaint it. So far it seems to run real nice, all the wiring looks to be in really good shape, and most of the chrome is in good shape as well. There's plenty of little stuff to work on with my son, but not so much that I feel like I have to tear it apart and start working on it right away. All in all its about what I was hoping. I'll get some additional pictures (good and bad) when I get it home this weekend.

Re: Buying another one! 72 Cheyenne K20

Got the truck home over the weekend and started going through it. Had a bit of a wiring issue after I got it off the trailer (loose starter wire lug on the solenoid that the previous owner recently installed, caused a short in the ignition switch wiring harness) but I got it all lined out Saturday morning. Moved on to the highway speed vibration issue, and it looks like there's actually a couple of 6 - 8" dents in the tube of the rear driveline. Going to get that re-tubed before I do much driving.

All in all, we are really happy with it. Lots of little things to clean up and repair from living up around Seattle for too long without regular care. My son is pretty stoked as it will probably be what he drives (at least part of the time) once he gets his license. The engine is a Jasper Engines "stage II" 383 stroker. It's definitely a beast! We gave it a quick once over with Meguire's Car Show Glaze (that stuff is amazing) last night and it cleaned up pretty well. It'll be due for a repaint in the relatively near future, but it doesn't look bad for a driver right now.

-Disregard the puddle under the front axle... Previous owner also "fixed" the leaking thermostat housing.

Good grief, that has to be the understatement of the year. That truck looks incredible. You want a project, I'll happily swap you for my K20. Now there's a truck that needs attention....

It does look pretty good in the pics, but the paint is pretty rough in places (some bubbling around the drip rails), there is a little bit of rust to clean up, and I need to pull the weatherstripping around the doors and clean up a bunch of surface rust there. The cab mounts are still decent with some rot on the outside edges (away from the actual bushing mounts), but I'll probably buy the slip on replacements to at least strengthen them a bit. Lots of what I consider minor restoration to be done, but the body itself is really straight, and the bed has no rust at all.

I will say, again, that I can't recommend the Meguire's 7 Car Show Glaze highly enough, especially on black paint. The paint had a few bad swirls and scratches, and they are all but gone after an hour with my dual action sander air tool, some terrycloth padded bonnets, and maybe 1/4 of the bottle of Meguire's. I also used it on my old 72 SWB K10 Cheyenne Super and my 65 Impala that I had painted black, and I am consistently amazed with the results. If you have older paint and want to clean it up on the cheap, this stuff will do the trick.

Ya, I think he's pretty happy. He doesn't get too animated, but I definitely think he likes it. Damn spoiled kids!

I'll get some pictures of the interior when we get done with some cleanup this evening. The headliner is in great shape, but needs reglued as it keeps sagging. The rest is in pretty darn good shape. The seat could use a recover, but really only has one crack in it. There's definitely some touchup work to do, but I'm probably a lot pickier than most in that regard. Not that I've had perfect trucks, but the little stuff bugs me sometimes.

Ya, its basically just a pinstripe in the same location / shape as the upper molding would be. I was on the fence about it, but I actually kinda like it. We'll probably go with the full upper molding when we eventually repaint it, but for now it kinda breaks up the black a little bit.
