Re: VIN Decoding

yeh your trucks vin is 2c144k138646 the 2 means 1962 model the c is conventinal ( not 4x4) , the 14 means its a 1/2 ton , 4 means its a pickup, k means that it was assemebeled in kansas city 138646 means that it was 138646th built at that plant

Re: VIN Decoding

Ditto what Kris said, except it is the 38,646th unit built at the KC plant, since the sequence number start with 100,001. This information is available in the '60-'66 Chevy/GMC Factory Assembly Manual. Everyone should have one. It is a good read.

Re: VIN Decoding

138,000 built at one assembly plant? Total production for 1962 was approx. 396,000, with 11 assembly plants. I believe this was the 38,646 unit built at Kansas City. Mo. With my math, that would be approx. 36,000 on average built at each assembly plant. The problem is the plant "Consecutive Sequence Number" starts with 100001.
