Talking Body Reassembly Questions

I am going to start putting the pieces back together so that I can prep them for primer and know that they are going to line up when I go to install them. I was going to start with placing the cab on the frame then installing the front clip. The main reason I am doing this is to check the body lines My question is should I assemble the box and put it on too? Or take the chance for some fluke reason once everything is painted it wont line up right (that would require getting a LWB floor and cutting it to size cuz I cant find a shorty anywhere!) I think the answer is getting more clear as I keep typing. The reason I am doing this is that all the body pannels have never been installed on this cab before. Any advice would be great on how to put everything back together!

At this point I don't plan to worry about the bed. I want to align the fenders, hood, doors, etc. but I figure the bed is somewhat independent and can be adjusted later. Mine is a step so I think it is a little easier than the fleets to get lined up.

To have a piece of mind I would put your bed on and line it up. That way you aren't second guessing yourself. I see in your sig that you shortened your frame so it may be a good idea to ensure everything lines up.

I will be doing similar..

my 67 front clip has never graced itself with my 71 cab.. infact.. my 71 cab has never graced itself wiht my 69 frame.. my 67 bedisides not a steel floor seen.. and theres still no tailgate heh

I look at the body as 1 peice.. what I plan to do is have the body panels painted before they're put oin the truck.. then we assemble them.. get it roughed in.. and take it back to the body shop for a panel alignment with a micrometer..

it might take more that way but.. thats what I'm thinking at this point.

btw the avatar represents my latest addition so you can see where I am at this point.. a few misc. parts shy of an engine-less rolling chassis.. so I have a whlie yet

let us know how it turns out

is it safe to assume your doors are on the cab and lined up? that's the first step then install cab. If you're sure the cab supports were good and you didn't have to worry about the cab sagging if/when you welded replacement cab panels in there shouldn't be any problem w/ the cant of the cab being off (as compared to the frame). throw the hood on (not bolted on-just to ensure a less likened chance of scratching the fenders during install-unless you're lucky enough to have help :-) and work your way around w/ the fenders. The grill is a stationary object so your distance between them will have to be set, but that also matches up with the width of the hood. Worse case is shimming out the fenders to meet the door and cowl.

is it a bad idea to not test fit these items on the frame before painting?

as far as I know my personal cab isn't sagging, but I havenb't really looked yet.. body work was going ot be a chore all its own.. now that you're talking about this. its got me thinking heh
