Re: lowering a 1968 chev truck

My 70 swb is lowered 4.5-6. I have seen trucks with 5-7 static drops. I wouldn't want to be any lower than I am if you plan on driving the truck alot.

As far as the parts, I used Early Classic Enterprises (ECE as it reffered to here) and would highly recomend them to anyone. Quality, service, and knowledge well above the competitors. Classic performance Parts (CPP) is another place you could look at. I have had good luck with them, although there are others that haven't. There are several others that sell lowering kits. These are just the two that I have bought parts from. Search around the site you you will find tons of info and pics that include suspension and wheel/tire specs.

Re: lowering a 1968 chev truck

Take a read through the suspension forum. Lots of good info (and pics) there. The 'make it handle' thread is really good (long but good). Most of the vendors cruise that forum and the good ones are willing to guide you in right direction. Do some reading, know what you want to achieve. Make a long term plan (and budget). Once you figure out how to make these trucks go around corners it can be additive. And not all the mods are high dollar parts.

Drop spindles on the front are a little more money but keep your suspension travel and geometry unchanged. I wouldn't go more than 2 1/2 with 15” tires.I went 3” and wound up with clearance issues on the lower control arms. 2” block on rears the most you can do after that you can get any number of drop springs. You'll be limited on how far you can go on whether you want a c notch. You've got about 6“ before you're on the bump stops.

Here is mine... ECE 4.5/6 drop love their parts. If you can get board member lolife99 to weight I think you will be money ahead as he has a ton of wisdom with drops and brakes etc.

I'm also running the ECE 4.5/6 drop kit on my 68'. It sits on 20" wheels with no issues at all.

Re: lowering a 1968 chev truck

I lowered my truck by heating the springs and bouncing on it til it was at my desired height. I only lowered it a couple inches.

Re: lowering a 1968 chev truck

A lot of people use the ECE stuff, I have heard nothing but good things about them.
