Curious about numbers.............

I'm curious about some stamped numbers on my cowl. Would anybody have a clue as to what they mean. They are on the drivers side stamped on the rolled edge.

No, no part of it matches the vin.

I've never seen it on any other truck I've had. Must be what Shawno said.

Could be a stamping for that secret Corvette option. lol

No no no, it's #215 made with the ultra rare General Lee option! It MUST have been repainted at least once, it's not even orange anymore!

Seriously... I have no friggin' clue. The numbers don't match up with any kind of VIN designation, and they don't make sense as a date.

I think someone stamped them on there for some reason. They are not factory to the best of my knowledge.

Has that part ever been repainted? Looks to even to have done done individually, looks like the numbers were in a gang and hit hard.

That section has never been repainted. From what I can tell when I took the front clip off, I'm the first person to take it off. The truck was built in Flint, Michigan. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Re: Curious about numbers.............

Maybe it got hit with an 01 215 at the factory and they figured it would be covered up,so let it pass.

Never seen that before. It's a mystery to me.

I understand what your saying. Maybe I opened up a quest of something we need to find out the meaning to. There is a reason to these markings.

Re: Curious about numbers.............

My 72 from the Fremont plant has 3 numbers etched into the cowl, never could figure out what it was. That was until I found the build sheet, the three numbers are the same as the build number on the build sheet.

Re: Curious about numbers.............

Maybe a die ID number????

I dont know much about it but isn't a 71 and 72 cab a little different? I've seen post about window seals not fitting from a 67-70 on a 71 or 72. Maybe its when they rolled into 71 production.

Is your production number low?

605732 is the production number. I don't think thats it but then again, who knows where the production number started.

Hey Tim,
Maybe GM will give me a brand new Chevy truck.

That would be sweet, we could only hope they did a better job of packaging than what they did with that '57 Plymouth.
