5.3Engine

I've noticed a lot of members wanting to, or are installing a 5.3 motor. Is this the old 305/307 motor? I had a 307 from a 72 last year that I took to the recycler as I was told it's not worth rebuilding, and to go with a 350. Can I get some advice on the 5.3, as a possible replacement for my 283?
Thanks.

My truck:
1965 Suburban, 283(not original), TH350(not working right) 3:73 gears, 1/2T 2wd

Re: 5.3Engine

The commonly referred-to "5.3" is the Gen III or Gen IV small block. It shares nothing with the Gen I 283/305/307/327/350 engine. It's an excellent engine, but not a simple bolt-in replacement.

Re: 5.3Engine

Thanks VH. Now I know what other members are talking about when they mention this engine.
