Vintage Air on its way
I just ordered a vintage air kit for a non air truck with factory controls. I ordered straight from them and it was about $1,170 with shipping.
I hope I can install it without screwing it up The fella told me they're behind on orders and it will be about 1 1/2 weeks before I get it. I guess since no one else has done one (that I've seen) I'll do a step by step install thread for us poor fella's who have to work in parking lots

Sounds good, you should do a play by play on the install!

Re: Vintage Air on its way
looking forward to the thread. My cab is AC but all of the dash unit stuff was pulled apart (and oddly enough left in the cab) by the PO. I might be able to use some of the info for putting my stuff back in working order.
Pic's would be great, and if you dont have one, pick up the Factory Assembly Manual. That answered a bunch of my routing questions..

Re: Vintage Air on its way
I think you'll be pleasently suprised at how easy the kit is to install, i did mine about a year ago and love it, my only complaint is that these systems are a bit louder than the factory ones, just because the blower is inside the cab. I always thought that there is a vintage air install thread in the faq section or else i would have done one. Any questons feel free to PM me!

Re: Vintage Air on its way
I have no idea.... My guess would be that you wouldn't need the A/C balls and vents, and the block off plate would be a little different?

Re: Vintage Air on its way
67,
i too am hopefully going to put a vintage air setup in mine though i am going to go the little more custom route. flush mounted bulhead & try a little different routing of the hoses. i will try to keep up with you on my install & i too will try to take pics & do a quick play by play. that is if i am able to figure it all out. i am going to buy my pieces seperate though. good luck & hope everything goes well! rodstored-72 |

Re: Vintage Air on its way
Cmon you can cut those yourself! It seems like you can download the templates for the holes from Vintage Airs website. I think they have the instructions online. Just go to the page with the templates and print them out. My best advice to you is to slide the center vent down a smidge. This will make it fit the curve of the dash better and clear the pad. Don't get me wrong you can set it up perfect with the pattern and it might work for ya but the last three I did had to have the opening worked somewhat for a better fit. Sliding the pattern down a smidge would solve this. Also the side vents should be slid toward the center of the truck a bit. If you go to far to the outside with em there is a brace/support/part (whatever) of the dash that interferes with the vents installation. Again it's not a problem, just some extra time to grind down the offending metal. I moved the vents as far towards the center as I felt like the dash was still semi flat. I didn't want to have to run the holesaw in any more of a curve than I had to. So, get a holesaw for the sides and a dremel for the center and go to town on it!

Re: Vintage Air on its way
There is a difference in were the A/C and heat lines come through the firewall, since the factory firewall holes are a bit different.

Re: Vintage Air on its way
Good luck with the install and keep us posted. I have a factory A/C system but would love to convert part of the system to the Vintage air system and clean up that part of the firewall.
As the gentleman said, "PICS PICS and more pics "

Re: Vintage Air on its way
It arrived yesterday! 2 big boxes and one small one. They did a good job of packaging it all up. I'm so busy at work (and building a deck this weekend) it will probably be a week or two before I even get started

http://www.classicair.com/CPickup6772.asp It also appears they only use the heater control unit to operate theirs, which limits you cooling options. I'm using a factory air unit with mine.
