Question NP205 Rebuild Guide?

Does anybody have the info on the NP205 Service Manual? Or where I can get a step by step guide for rebuilding the NP205? I thought I saw a reference to a book or website on here earlier this year?

Thanks,

Re: NP205 Rebuild Guide?

The books I have are for 1977 Light Duty GMC Trucks. The good one is the Unit Repair Manual. The GM book # is X7745. It covers the A/C, Steering, Brakes, Fuel System, Transmisions, Transfer Case and Differentials. It gives step by step instructions on rebuild/repairs on each individual unit. I also have the Service Manual # X-7732B and Truck Wiring Diagram # X-7730 (ST-352-77).You might want to do a Google search by plugging in 72 where my book #s have 77.

Re: NP205 Rebuild Guide?

About a year ago I ran across a link(for Jeeps I think) that had step by step instructions complete with pictures on rebuilding a NP205 transfer case.
I saved it as a favorite and just tried to go to it and I don't think it's there anymore.
Try http://www.fsjnetwork.com/link.html and contact them to see if they can provide it. (I think the original site was www.bulldogs-house.com)
I printed it (and still have it) but it was probably about a hundred pages to print. It is very detailed and easy to follow because there are pictures of every step.
It was titled NP205 ReBuild Tech
I think The original site is http://okcnetworks.com/bronco
Go to the tech section and it will let you go to the 205 rebuild but you can't bring it up. Contact him and see if he can provide it.
Also, keep in mind, all 1980 chevy 4x4's used a 205 so maybe a good service manual will help.

Re: NP205 Rebuild Guide?

i downloaded the military service manual from pirate. it has pretty good pictures but the part numbers they list dont exist in the real world appatently. all 1980's had the 205 but it has the slip yoke rear output. its not really that complicated inside there. buy some cheap super thick grease. youll need it to make all the bearings stay in there while you put the shaft back in, youll need some snap ring pliers that are fairly heavy duty, a magnet to grab the balls that hold the shifters in. the socket that holds the yoke on is a 1 5/16 and has to be thin walled to fit in there.

Re: NP205 Rebuild Guide?

I bought the following video of ebay, I think it was worth the money, but I haven't applied the knowledge yet so I can't tell you if it's accurate.

I think that ebay site is selling this site's videos for a few bucks more:

http://www.technicalvideos.com/video...sfercase.phtml

Perhaps shipping differs. In any case, I need a DVD copy. I think I'll call Tech Videos' toll-free # to inquire on DVD format availability.
