I have more shop equipment in there now, along with more shelving, so it is not as tidy as it was then. But still have lots of room. It is 30'x40' with 8' walls. My biggest mistake!! Should have went with 12' or 14' walls so I could put int a lift. I also have a large 220VAC window mount AC unit in the wall, and a 100,000 BTU shop heater. Year 'round comfort!

3 very workable bays, and the one my truck sits in is way oversized. Hard to tell probably from that pic, but its pretty nice.

My advice would be get whatever overhead storage you can (I have all that space available overhead) and insulate your walls for good heat/cool properties. You know the rest. Receptacles everywhere, big as you can...

I am still adding lights, etc. This wasn't the finished state, just a couple of buddies brought their turbo cars over and waxed them while I cleaned on the truck.

ahhh. so thats what mine will look like when its done. I just finished siding it last night. Its a 24x40 with 9 ft walls. I havent finished the inside yet. Still have a huge stack of sheetrock and insulation to put in. I ran a 60amp service out there and have a furnace for winter working. Keeping my eyes open for a window unit air conditioner for next summer.

I'm going to epoxy coat the floor right away. I have water and a drain for washing indoors too.

Do your self a favor before you hang all that sheetrock and do a little research on how many amps all your equipment draws and maybe bump it up a little. If you are going to be running a welder and air compressor you are over loaded already.

I ran full 200 amp service to mine. I have too many 220v items to run... mill, air compressor, A/C, MIG welder, TIG.... sometimes they are all running at once!

I'm living vicariously through my boss since I live in over inflated California and realestate & land is STUPID priced!!!!....and the wimpy 2 car garage at home just don't cut it!

We sell equipment to body shops and basically this is a fully operational showroom with all the goodies we sell.......I think I'm in heaven!

When I interviewed here last Dec and my now boss showed me the facility I about crapped a twinky!!!

Glock...that is AWESOME!!!

Here is mine. I had to build a tandem garage since I live in the city of Arvada. It's 20 ft wide by 36 ft deep. Looks like a 2 car from the street. My impression...a great parking garage....not too great for working on trucks/cars though...but I manage.

These are old pictures. The garage is fully insulated and has a 60 amp electrical service with 220. I have a portable propane heater that keeps it warm....warms it up in 10 minutes or so.

The garage has attic storage 12 ft wide by 36 ft deep by 5.5 ft high. My wife has it full of stuff!

Though the shop in which I get to work on my truck is awesome, I still have to play by somebody else's rules. I'm envious of all you guys that have enough room to have a shop within walking distance of where you sleep...or for that matter somewhere else. The best part about that is it's YOUR'S and you can do what you want with it.

Here is mine. Like many said, build as big as you can afford (or restrictions allow). It's never enough.
The build photo gives you the idea of the real layout that you can't fully see with the walls up and all the plant growth back.

Palf70Step, what size is your shop. That looks like a nice shop you there, you southern guys are lucky not haveing to insulate for cold winters, but I guess you got the heat.

The shop is 24x30 with a 18x15 overhang. It is insulated. Believe me, I'd fry if it wasn't. But I opted for industrial blown-in foam type insulation. To me it works and looks better and holds up better.

here's my shop... it has a miserable climate all year... in the summer, it's too stinkin hot, and in the winter it'll freeze your everything off. Oh yeah, and the tools suck (at least I've got a portable air compressor for ...well... tires, and blowing things off... ), my tool wrack consists of a bunch of wrenches in one of my hubcaps, and to get under anything sucks majorly, and those rocks are rough on the back!

Well, okay, it isn't a shop (well, it's my shop), and it's called a driveway, but it works.

Otherwise, usually our tools are hung up in the shed, where right now I'm tearing apart a 351W for the ole 1969 Pony wagon (aka Mustang) in the process of rebuilding it. I haven't got a pic of that, might have to grab one, but basically it's a little shed, about 15 feet by 10 feet or something. With all the crap in there in the summer, it's got an area to work in about ten feet by six feet. And boy does it get hot in there, being 90-100 degrees outside, about 1,000 inside, and in coveralls, and a meager little fan going which doesnt help a lot. But it works, I mean, how long could one boy take to rebuild a motor?

Or two, after I get done with the Ford motor for our 69 Mustang, I've got to rebuild my 350 for my 69 Chevy.

Anyways, my overuse of words is about complete, attached is a picture of the greatest (note sarcasm) shop ever...
