VIN problem

I bought my '68 back in Nov and am having a problem regestering it. The VIN is CE248T117678 and on the title it states its a '71. I had the police look it up and they also have in the comp that it is a '71, I know it is a 68. Now with registering it, they need proof that this is wrong, how would I go about doing this? Should I contact Chevy direct and have them send me an official document stating the year of the vehicle??

Re: VIN problem

your VIN states it is a 68 right there.

Try printing this page out and showing them.

Re: VIN problem

I was stopped last year in my 68 burb and the police officer said it was stolen and had a fraudlulent VIN because it wasn't 17 digits.
You would think that the DMV, MVA or what ever would be able to tell or that a stolen car detective would know. They used to check out a few repo's we had stored at the yard. They had books with location of all the VIN's and break down.

Re: VIN problem

I have issues with my VIN also, but around here I haven't had any problems yet. The previous WA registration and title says CE1405939465 which I know is not even a valid number and my cab door plate says CE149S838465. The number are close enough that tehre was obviously a mis-read or something, but off enough to believe that someone needed glasses.

Re: VIN problem

I have found that you can usually just tell the dmv about the typo and it can be fixed. they'll retitle it to you again with the proper VIN on the title.
