rear tank options for 50 chev truck
Hello all, new member here with a 50 chevy truck. Small block 400,350 turbo tranny. Nova front clip and rearend. I want to relocate the tank to the rear of the truck and am looking for all options. I know there are plenty of after market tanks out there but am looking to here from all of you on the tanks that you used in your builds. I dont want one that hangs down to far, and of course the lower the cost the better. This is a great site and love seeing what all of you have done to your rides, thanks in advance to all of your suggestions.

Re: rear tank options for 50 chev truck
Buck, I was in the same boat looking for something cheap and decent, and new, I went with a 87-90 blazer tank because I have fuel injection, get 86 and older if your doing mechanical, it hangs a little lower than I wanted but for what I have into it you can't beat the price , made my own straps and mounting out of some two inch strap materials and then used old bike tubes from my kids bikes for a cushion against the tank worked great email me if you want a pic to nachoj55@gmail.com

Re: rear tank options for 50 chev truck
Hey Nacho, is that tank a rear fill? Guess i didn't mention that that's what i am looking for, i want to put the filler in behind my plate. Wonder if a tank out of a 90's caddy would work? Anyone know? Thanks

I just bought a custom s/s tank that a guy had made for a 58 Ford sedan. Its approx 28*21*9 inches and the guy said it fitted his old Ford nicely.

Re: rear tank options for 50 chev truck
I used a 69 camaro tank and it worked perfectly. It has the filler in just the right spot. Use a 54 bumper with the dip in the middle and it works great. The tank holds 16 gallons and does not hang low at all. They are cheap too.

I have the blazer tank in my 56, gonna replace it with smaller one. Not sure how it would fit in the earlier years

I just put in a 80 Jeep CJ7 tank 15 gallons.
25 X 18 X 10, Works well and Cheap. You can get them in Steel or plastic I have found that many jeep parts work well. |

Re: rear tank options for 50 chev truck
I used an 84 4x4 s10 blazer tank w/ the crossmembers..had to add about 4 inches per side. It fits well and uses the blazer straps and poly tank guard.
