71 c30 project
hey guys i have been curising this forum for a while, I have recently bought a 71 chevy c30 c&c. Been working on it when i can, between kids and job i dont have a lot of time. So far I have pancaked the from crossmember and cleaned and rebulit the whole front suspension. Made upper and lower bag mounting plates and cups. Now here is where i need help, i have a 12v cummins in my shop that was slated for my 85 k30, but i think i want to put it in the 71. What size air bags do you guys think would be right for this? I have some #3800 bags already but mocking them up in the front suspension they look hugh, but i know im going to have a lot of weight up from. wondering if i need to go with #2600 bags. I would be very grateful for any advice!
This is the truck the day I picked it up. I will update as often as i can with pic, thanks again. |

Re: 71 c30 project
Slam specialties SS8 should do. I am running these on the front of my dually build because one day I want to do a duramax swap.

Re: 71 c30 project
Hey guys i know it has been a while since i have posted any progress on this thing. I have been mocking up the front end and ran into a few problems, i have to get smaller bags and now decided to go with a set of Porterbuilt front control arms. I have been collecting the pieces and parts i need to build my rear suspension, it will be something similar to unclematt's set for his c30, very heavy duty.

Re: 71 c30 project
Hey guys well I have been saving all the money I can so I could buy the wheels Ia wanting to run that way I could have them to mock up the rear suspension, motor location and anything inbetween that I may run across.. anyway I had about half the money saved for a set of milled alcoas plain I might add. When I was cruising CL in my area and found 6 of these for 2600.000

Well my porterbuilt control arms came in the other day, and man they look awesome! I also went ahead and got their hood hinges, top notch as well.. heres some pics they are 2" wider and ball joints set 1" forward.. im thinking about doing some dimple die work on the upper arm before powder coating them..

Re: 71 c30 project
Mr Moose,
With your control arms being 2"wider aren't your wheels going to be sticking out of the fenders? Especially if you have those big rig wheels that will need adapters putting you out even further. Just wondering........... Flat67 |

Re: 71 c30 project
Hey got a question for you guys, are the front crossmembers in the 1/2, 3/4,& 1ton trucks all the same? I know the control arms are a little different but could you bolt a c30 crossmember into a c10 frame?

Re: 71 c30 project
If you are going to use a 67-72 C10 frame,... I just bolt your C30 a-arms to the C10 crossmember.
I think all 67-72 crossmembers are basically the same. (there are minor differences in brake line mounting tab locations)
