Re: Wiring harness

Yep. My first total rewire, went without a hitch. Take your time. Get an assortment of grommets (Summit has a good one) and heat shrink tubing (Horrible Freight) and take your time. Jump on in there and good luck. You'll be proud.

Re: Wiring harness

I used the 21 circuit one. It was just under $200. at the swapmeet in Moultrie, Ga. in 2011.
I would probably not get that many circuits because I had a bunch of leftovers.(Backup lights, electric windows and locks, etc.) Stuff I won't use. You can eliminate them if you want.

Re: Wiring harness

I also used the 21 ckt from EZWire. I'm well pleased with it. Get lots of crimp-on terminals and shrink tubing before you start. Also, lay it out and re-arrange the bundles to fit a truck. It seems to be laced out for use in a car when it comes. You can remove some of the wires for accessories that you don't plan to use or you can coil them up and hide them somewhere in case you want them later.

Re: Wiring harness

Nice, I am also in the market for a wiring harness. Great info. Think the 21 circuit is the way to go and then just wrap the cords you don't use just in case later you change your mind.

Re: Wiring harness

i used the ez wire 21 circuit on truk.
use the notes pages on back to describe what you did different from the instructions.
draw up any relay diagrams you use, more notes make for easy trouble shooting later on.

also download the instructions from painless to supplement your ezwire instructions.

Re: Wiring harness

I forgot to mention before that the EZWire harness comes configured to plug in to a later GM column or an after market column with a GM style plug. If you are keeping your original column it's a little more work.

Yup, I used a GM column to make the ignition wiring and turn signal wiring easier.

I also got the 21 circuit EZ Wiring harness. everything was pretty simple to install, just take your time, and follow the tips they give. The only wire that was totally out of place that I can remember was the brake light switch and High beam wires, but I also changed my high beam with a later model universal so the plug is inside the cab on the side of the high beam button, instead of in the engine compartment at the end of the button.

Saved me from having to run the wires through the firewall and carpet covers the wires anyhow.

I bought my harness kit on eBay like 6 years ago, and it was only around $170 shipped

Re: Wiring harness

I am using painless, but amercican autowire is really good setup friend used it on his 54. EZ wire are fab up off shore just check the crimps on back of fuse panel been have been known to have defective crimps. If you go with it I would add some solder on crimps.

Re: Wiring harness

I have an EZ wire 21 set up that I have not installed yet. I had questions about connections to my column, and stuff not outlined in the manual. I got the company owner on first try and he was very helpful, said to call back if I ran into problems during install. I got it directly for $199.51 including shipping. It comes with connectors for different columns, alternators, and distributors. I got the 21 circuit one because I will eventually have 7 lead trailer plug, auxillary front and back lights, cruise and a winch.

Here is a good place for detailed information on the process. Scroll down to a drop down menu. General infor, specific infor and blow by blow account of his wiring experience. Lots of other good info and links too.

Re: Wiring harness

I have used a EZ wire 21 and also a Its-a -snap 21 and they both work great, but I am leaning on a Its a snap for the next project, as it seemed a bit easier, or there was too much time passed to remember all the questions i had!!

Re: Wiring harness

You can get the ez wiring kit on ebay with all the switches you need for $230. Also another good wiring company to go with is rebel wiring.

Re: Wiring harness

Red Foreman

i went with #500481 of the AAW kit - 21 circuit - honestly it wasnt cheap
but i got a pretty good deal on it - i chose the 21 because i figure i will add more ''toys'' down the line and i wont have to source out what i need.
this is for my project 57 . good luck sir -and what ever you get read it all 6 times and install it once !
