S/10 rear end brakes
I'm looking to buy a complete rear end from a 4x4 to install into my 51 Chevrolet sedan for a T5 conversion with the original 235 engine. My question is I want one with drum brakes and I get conflicting answers as to when the S/10's switched to disk brakes? Was it at the same time for the trucks and blazers? Would appreciate it, thanks

Re: S/10 rear end brakes
I believe the reason for the conflicting information is rear disc brakes started as an option and was part of equipment packages for 4 to 5 years at least with drums still being the base model brakes. I also believe that 2wds had discs available years before 4x4's.
I'm not really tuned into 4x4 stuff but, with the 2wd rear axles there 2 different axles available starting around 2000. The base 7.5 and the beefier 8.5. I don't believe the 8.5 was offered in 4x4's. I only mention this as S10's at this point have been subjected to many modifications and part swapping. Measure before you buy. Are you wanting a 4x4 axle for the width? If so all the first Gen 4x4's will have drums from the factory. And second generation trucks were for the most part drums before 2000 Hope that helps.

Re: S/10 rear end brakes
Here is a thread containing the RPO codes for S10 rear axle ratios. It may be helpful in your search.
Good luck! https://www.s10forum.com/threads/rea...12655/#replies
