Motor mounts and freeze plugs

OK time to start on the 1972 350 motor mounts and freeze plugs. I have read a tremendous amount on here about the process. Some make it sound easy others a real pain. Too me appears to be the latter. Should one side be done at a time?Mine is totally stock with air. Does the mount need to be loosened before jacking with a 2x4 under the oil pan? looks to be a real pain but I need to do it. Thanks for any info.

I don't know about jacking up the engine from the oil pan... I'd lift from the top with a picker.

No matter what way you do it... it ain't gonna be an easy task.

Re: Motor mounts and freeze plugs

I am not looking forward to it but it has to be done. I noticed underneath it today which is off subject but the tie rod is mighty close to the oil pane like less than a quarter of an inch. Is that normal?

Re: Motor mounts and freeze plugs

its not tough to do but it is a time consuming PITA.

a little tougher on the manualy tranny trucks

Id rather do it to a v8 3 on the column then a AC truck

dont do one side at a time. lift the whole engine up remove the mounts and then the freeze plugs. re install.

If your tranny is a manual. unbolt the bell housing mounts as well

as if your not having enough fun yet... there are two freeeze plugs behind the fly wheel as well

It's a pain in the *** to get the new motor mount bolts to line back up for some reason. Little work, but the best way I found to get em bolted back up is to loosen all the (6) bolts that hold the engine perches to the frame. (Yeah, I know, PITA) but I have spent hours trying to get bolts to line up without doing this.
Freeze plugs; I always put them in the freezer the night before installing them. They actually shrink just the slightest (miniscule) amount and make for easier install. I take em out of the freezer one at a time and install them.

Re: Motor mounts and freeze plugs

Those perches will need too be removed to replace the freeze plugs anyhow so best not to tighten them down until the new mounts are lined up I suppose. THis is a very tight and greased up area to work in.
