Blazer bucket seat help
I picked up a 77 Blazer missing the seats front and back. I know the short back were from 73-77 then the high back from 78 to 91. Were all the highbacks the same? Found a set of high backs from an 86 that are much more rounded on the top but look correct otherwise. Are the bolt patterns all the same? Any words of advise? I am trying to bring the interior back to stock and have many parts already. But the seats may be an issue. Any and all help / comments are appreciated
Do the back seats interchange? |

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
Didn't mean to ask a hard question. I have found there are 3 types of the high back seats. The early high back seats are square looking on top. The later ones are more rounded and smooth looking. They also don't recline until 86.
Can somebody please confirm the reclining part? Still don't know about the bolt patterns but that shouldn't be an issue. I presume many of the seats were changed to something more comfortable and have a recline feature. Perhaps that's why my seats are gone. |

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
Your info on the seats sounds right. The later high backs that are rounded off at the top used different bases and likely don't bolt up to the earlier floors. Maybe the drivers side does? But the later passenger side front bucket seat will not since it doesn't hinge at the front of the seat base and fold forward like the late 70's/early 80's seats do. Did your 77 have the back seat that folds forward or bolted fixed to the floor?

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
Thanks John,
I currently don't have any seats nor do I know anybody that has a K5 to look at. However this will change as the year progresses. I am in a collecting parts mode right now and will assemble this truck next winter. I think I have a deal on a set of seats from an 86 so I will go with that for the short term. I will update this thread as I learn more. |

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
To figure out what back seat you need, look at the holes in the rear floor. If you have bolt holes only then the back seat from the 86 won't work and you'll have to look for an earlier fixed mount seat. If your floor in the back has bolt holes for the front edge of seat and recessed pins in the rear then the seat from the 86 will work.

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
The earlier high back seats did not recline. The passenger side has a hinge, and the seat would pivot on that. Pretty sure those seats will interchange side to side if necessary to account for wear. Starting around 86 or so, they went to a fold and slide type seat, where the track stays stationary, and the seat folds forward and slides on the tracks for access to the rear seat. These seats have a reclining mechanism and cannot be switched side to side due to this. The top of the front seat is more rounded like you are describing. As far as I know, the rear seat design is pretty similar from 78 on, in that it folds and tumbles forward.

Mid 86 was interior change. Went from brackets to pedestal seat mount with completely different seat until end of the run in '91. 73-77 low back seat brackets AKA floor mounts will interchange with 78-early 86 seat. Drivers side never changed 73-early 86. 73-78(79) passenger used a hoop bolted to the floor and 80-86 used a catch IN the floor. Looks just the rear seat catch on the fold and tumble seat. Clear as mud right? |

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
Now I have found a set of low back seats. Can somebody please recommend which seats I should use. Would the high backs be more comfy or perhaps I would be better off with the correct seats?

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
So I remember 77 was a mid year change from low back to high. I think either is correct. Highbacks ate more comfortable and maybe some protection in rear ender? Some prefer the look of low backs. Not visible thru windows so cleaner look.

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
I prefer the low backs myself. Plenty comfortable but I put in new foam in mine.

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
Which plaid. I could use the material for a project if there is anyway to salvage it

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
Congrats. If covers are salvageable I’d buy front and back

Re: Blazer bucket seat help
I am actually really thrilled to have been in the right place at the right time. I really wanted plaid to go with my Mandarin interior (according to SPID) and this is it. OK it is not exact as the 76 is a little different than 77 but it will look cool when done. And my Blazer is a Custom Deluxe not a Cheyenne and that makes a difference too. The drivers seat bottom showed some wear and may have to be replaced. Otherwise I hope to use the seats with as much of the original covers as I can. Ill go with what my upholsterer recommends. There will be a little dyeing and a little vinyl replacement and perhaps some magic.
