I am gathering the parts to do a front end rebuild on my '69 and I am trying to find replacement upper control arm bolts and ubolts for the lower control arms.

Is there something special about these bolts/ubolts that would prevent me from not being able to use grade 8 bolts from Grainger or Fastenal? I found them at Classic Parts, but i can get discounts at both grainger and fastenal and can save on shipping(handling) fee.

Does any one know what size these the bolts and ubolts are?

I found the lower control arm ubolts at NAPA, part number BK 6504065. $9 a pair.

does anyone have a part number or a source for the upper control arm bolts?

It was going to be over $50 for the upper bolts, lower ubolts and shipping from classic chevy.

latermodel trucks have beefier ubolts that can b used by just enlarging to holes// worth the safety factor// i believe 73on used them

The upper control arms don't have bolts per se, rather they use studs pressed into the front crossmember.

Right, they are splined studs that press in or are pulled in when tightened. I would like to replace all the fasteners (bolts or studs) when i rebuild the front end next weekend.

Where are you guys getting them?

did those napa ubolts work for you? One of the ubolts broke on my suburban and can't find any place local though napa is about the only place I haven't checked.

I probably had a couple thousand upper A frames off assorted vehicles in the years that I did front end work and I could probably hold the A arm bolts I changed in one hand. Unless the A arm nuts were loose and let the shaft move around on the bolts or something else damaged them I don't see the need for replacing them. The lower U bolts often get damaged for one reason or another and probably could stand being replaced though.

But do what ever makes you happy.

Since we're on this subject, we (my son and I) have disassembled my chassis. He bought a sandblast cabinet from Harbor Freight, and it is our intention to sandblast the small parts. We're sending out the chassis, and both tranmission and engine crossmembers, as well as the trailing arms, to a guy who does this in a serious fashion.

I plan on sandblasting the control arms and the shafts. Although I replaced the bushings and ball joints when it was lowered, I know that taking them apart will also mean replacing them again.

I assume that I can slide a piece of fuel line (for example) over any of the threaded portions, including the studs for the upper control arm mounting, and protect them from the sand blaster. Any pointers?
