Windshield wipers..Whats correct for my/our trucks? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I want to know what the correct style windshield wipers are for a 1968 chevy c10. Also would like to see the 67-72 windshield wiper style (If different).

Mine are metal/plastic. I need new wiper blades, but I dont like the black plastic ones that're currently on the truck. Im going to find some correct wipers before I purchase new blades, Make sense?

Thanks guys. Wheres the best place to purchase blades for our trucks? (Will autozone carry blades this far back? Quality?)

Anco or Trico....but I'm thinking that Trico were what was on it when it was new. I'm with you on the metal vs. plastic stuff.

Well, theres a 68 there with some U shaped blades, then my 68 had all metal blades. (I'll try'n get some pictures of all this im takling about). So autozone etc carries decent blades for our trucks?

last time i went to kragens to get new wiper blades they gave me the right ones (15 in) but they werent the right ones they were like the ones on my moms 05 honda! and when i showed them what i needed they looked at me like i brang in and acient atrifact!

The original arms used wipers that fit onto them and locked onto a pin that was on top of the arm. There was a tab on the bottom side that you'd pry away from the arm, to release the blade.

Check with the vendors on this site and see what they have...

Holy Crap, the last time I bought wipers was......6 or 7 years ago. Haven't had a reason to use them cause I don't drive it in the rain, EVER.

BUT, the last time I bought them I just ordered what ClassicParts.com has and they fit just fine.

Sadly, our world has evolved into one that is run by computers and all you need to do is be able to use one. The last time I was aware, the measurement standards (feet, inches, etc.) hadn't changed, so saying it needs a certain length wiper is all that matters to those who just don't get the old car (truck) scene. NAPA is my go-to store. At least most of the guys there are old enough to remember when cars/trucks didn't have a computer of any kind....unless you were into rallying.

The trico anco interchange the arms are the same the wiper blade holder parts are different.

I have 1 metal and 2 plastic.

How do the wipers come off the cowl?!

There is a tab in the wiper arm that will release them from the splined shaft. Be careful prying on it to get the wiper arm off. You can scratch the paint... ask me how I know.

Here is how you get them off right.

The orignal wiper's were all metal.

Sadly, Trico is soon to be discontinuing the unpainted metal blade, if you see them out there snatch them up, soon they will be verry tough to find..

I struggled for years everytime I needed to remove wiper arms off one of my trucks, always scratching the cowl and dreading pulling the damn arm off after not setting it straight. I bought one of those tools the other day from LMC and now it's almost fun pulling the arms off! The tool makes it EASY! it was well worth the five bucks!

This is what I have. It's padded underneath to keep from scratching the cowl.

I pulled them off a small Chevy car in the junk yard. I then used the Kerson heater to heat up some water put them in it then clamped them down to the arm until they cooled down. It worked great and they will pop right off if I need them to.

The first time I saw Andy4639 post pictures of that Snap-On tool I googled "Snap-On A192" and ordered it. One of the best tools in my tool box, next to the window crank/inside door handle horseshoe clip remover tool.

Both tools are under $10 each and worth every penny if you own one of these trucks.

i used to buy refills for my originals but i haven't seen them lately so i just did the next best thing and took the blade out of the newer ones and painted the blade holder silver like my orginal arms
