Door Lock and Latch Problem

I'm having problems with the latches and locks on my '71

I think the latches are out of adjustment as you really have to slam the doors to get them to close. What would be the procedure to adjust them?

Now the locks might be the same or different problem. The drivers side will not lock from the key, only the plunger. The passenger side will lock from both but sometimes gets jammed and the only way to open it is to grab the plunger with a pair of pliers. Both sides seem to open from the key except when the passenger side is jammed.

I guess I need to go through and rebuild/repair them. Am I better sticking the the OE pieces or are the repops decent?

Thanks in advance

Rick

Haven't yet. I was trying to get some info before I rip the doors apart. That's gonna be a project for next weekend.

Just picked up the truck and I have a list of small tasks that I need to attend to with it.... imagine a 40 year old truck and it needs work!

Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted! I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions.

Re: Door Lock and Latch Problem

I didn't make it real clear in the older post but you don't have to pull the inner door panel to lube the lock & latch mechanism. If you roll the window all the way down and use a good flashlight you can see inside the door and lube it through the window channel opening.
