Grandfather's 1970 C20 - Currently in Mexico

Hello everyone, new to this forum. Discovered the forum because I'm thinking of restoring my Grandfather's 1970 C20 that is currently in Mexico. Not sure if anyone has ever transported a vehicle from another country or has any advice?

Does it run? Have them drive it across then buy it.

Does it run/drive and is it with friends or family? If can drive across and you get get your HANDS on it, that would give you time to think of a way to get it in the system. Is it in Tamulipas or Nuevo Leon? Surely one of the many transmigrante outfits would have some insight, they darn sure move enough units that way...

I bought a '69 truck in Canada with a bill of sale only and brought it into the US without an issue. I would think that bringing a truck in from Mexico would be about the same. It helped that the truck was built in the US originally.

If it runs and is tagged have someone drive it over for you then get a bill of sale and apply for a bonded title over here don't even mention it coming from Mexico. If it doesn't run pull the motor then you can bring it over as easily

I would call AAA and see what they say. I use AAA to register all my vehicles. California DMV is a hassle, maybe Texas is not bad. But the fact it was your grandfathers really adds to the cool factor for sure. I owned my truck back in the 80s, then got it back a few years ago, the old history has a sentimental cool factor for me too. Get it over here then work it from the position of having it in your driveway.

Good luck!

To say the California DMV is a hassle is a huge understatement. It is a nightmare. I would rather get a root canal than deal with them.

Hopefully Texas isn't that bad.

I would try one of those vehicle registration services.

Tell them what you have, and see what they say.

Just get the paperwork straightened out first. Otherwise you might end up with a big headache. (Ask me how I know)

I think it's very cool that you want to preserve your grandfathers truck, and I wish you good luck.
