Re: '70 Stepside Build

Update: Got it home and really considered keeping the original inline 6 but decided to pull it and go with a 350 for now.

I love the truck, it's coming along nicely, I have one the exact same color but yours is in better shape than mine. Stay at it, it'll be a sweet ride.

Re: '70 Stepside Build

Ended up getting a Demon 850 double pumper from my neighbor and some other engine parts that he had laying around. Hopefully its not to much carb for the motor

Re: '70 Stepside Build

Its been a while since Ive posted some updates, I live in Texas and its almost at the point where its too hot to even attempt to do anything outside in this heat. Ive got the front end bolted back up and some work done to the bed. Slowly but surely its coming along.

Re: '70 Stepside Build

Got the mufflers installed last week. Went with some Flowmaster 40 series. Sounds pretty good but it needs more lope. I guess its time for a different cam.

Re: '70 Stepside Build

The truck's looking good. You need to post some new pics with the white wheels and new tires.

Re: '70 Stepside Build

It's been a while since I've given any updates. I've been driving the truck a lot more lately and working out all of the little bugs. I've repainted my wheels and put new tires on it and scored some hubcaps off of craigslist for $20 bucks. Here are some pics from this past weekends car show.

Re: '70 Stepside Build

Its been a while since I've posted any updates and I've made a couple changes. So I was running a 350/350 setup and it was good and all but I just didn't like the 3 speed high rpms the transmission was giving me so I decided to go with a 700r4. I had a 350 bored over .030 in my garage that I had been working on and decided since I was going to change the transmission I might as well get the rebuilt motor ready and dropped in at the same time. These are before and after pictures of the motor. I went with some flat head pistons, Crane cam and lifters, and had the heads rebuilt by a coworker with all new seals, rods, and rockers all out of Summit.

Re: '70 Stepside Build

I ordered a TCI lockup kit out of Jegs to rewire the 700 so the converter would lockup under vacuum. The wiring was pretty simple and the kit came with everything I needed. I also went ahead and mounted a temp sender (not pictured) to the side test port so I could monitor what temp I was running at. I also had to buy an adapter for the throttle on my carb so the TV cable on the tranny would have the correct geometry of pull, without this the shifting would be completely off and would end up burning up the transmission.
