Track came off of the drivers door window glass

Hey guys,

I bought a new regulator because my window would no longer go up or down. For a while I had trouble with it binding when trying to roll it down. When i took the door panel off I discovered that the metal track came off the window. Do I need a new plastic channel piece that goes on the glass? I can put it back in but the plastic is in bad shape in it doesn't fit very snug. Where do I buy that plastic piece?

Thanks

Re: Track came off of the drivers door window glass

You need glass setting tape to install the glass into the channel. The only vendor I have seen that carries it (other than a glass shop) is the Truck Shop in Orange, Ca. They sell three different thicknesses, the one to use will depend on whether or not your glass is original or aftermarket. I bought all three thicknesses when I did mine because I had no idea which would fit. My glass is OEM and iirc I used the middle one.

Re: Track came off of the drivers door window glass

I recently bought the same tape from LMC. They only carry one size, I was unaware that there are different thickness tapes. I had trouble getting my window to "seat" in the channel.

I would recommend you buy somewhere else for a better fit. (assuming the windows in my truck are the same thickness as yours)

It is OEM glass as far as I can tell. Looks like its been in there while. Trying to find a local place that sells it. No luck so far.

I had that happen when I put all new felts in my window tracks. Rolled down the window first time and the track popped right off. Had to take it all apart again. We had safelite come do a windshield in one of our work trucks one day and the guy glued it back on for me for free. Just had to let it sit for 24 hours. I'd say safelite or similar is your best bet.

Re: Track came off of the drivers door window glass

I replaced the seals a few years ago and it was tight ever since that. I thought the regulator was going bad because it felt like the gear was slipping. Now I realize it was the new seals the whole time.

I ended up using an 30min 2000psi epoxy so adhere the metal to the glass. Seems to be holding together so far.

If you are careful you can use the 3M Black gasket sealer or the 3M weather stripping adhesive. Run a bead inside the channel then use a mallet n lightly tap it up in the right spot. Let it sit for a few hrs on a warm day.

Yup. I'd use urethane to reinstall it. You can take it to a glass shop and have it done. I did see 3M tubes at AutoZone. They used a regular caulk gun.
