Seat Belt Retractor Cover Repair

Ok, so first off, I'm a cheapskate.

The original seat belts in my truck are in pretty good shape, and the retractors work just fine. However, the retractor covers are faded, chalky, and the driver's side is broken on top.

I know I can replace the whole seat belt assembly, but I really don't want to spend $200+.

Can I just replace the retractor covers somehow? I was thinking of slicing them in the back, replacing them, and repairing somehow.

Any thoughts, any advice? What did you guys do? Oh, and pictures PLEASE!
