Remove side window trim 65 GMC Suburban

What is the proper way to remove this trim without damaging it? It's the chrome trim around the windows.

Re: Remove side window trim 65 GMC Suburban

Those come off kinda' like windshield wiper inserts.
Get a pair of duck-bill needle nose pliers......... and if you're concerned about the paint on the doner rig, use masking tape on the end of the pliers.....and grab the end of the horizontal ones and slide them off of the clips. you may need a helper with a flat screw driver on the other end to help guide the strip over the clips.
To install, you "hang" them on the clips in the correct position and 'snap' them over the bottom of the clip, one at a time from one end or the other.. You can usually use the palm of your hand for that part.
Ask an old body guy for help if you're not sure. That's a nice set of trim.
Good luck.....It's not that tough once you understand how they work.

Re: Remove side window trim 65 GMC Suburban

Thanks. I managed to get them off without creasing them. Got all the clips too for the body pieces. They all have a slight curve to them though from removal, but once put back they'll be nice. The Passenger door was the only one there. I got that too, just a small buckle on the back near the front corner as the clips with nuts rounded off, so I have to squeeze it over the remainder of the clips.

I will be posting them for sale later once I get them home and make sure I have something to ship them in. Please don't post here asking for them.

I'm sorry 'bout the bad info.....I was confused on the style of clips you were dealing with....
It looks like you did ok on them.

Keep finding the good stuff...

No problem. I looked to see if I could do it your way first, and then realized that there must be different types, so I just took these slow. The only hard part was the door one, as shown. The front of that one is fine though.
