72 chevy c-10 ran before an oil change

hello, i have a 72 c-10 with a 250 c.i. engine with a 4 speed manual transmission. the other day i went to change the engine oil, and it ran fine when i pulled it up to in front od the garage. but afterwards, the truck would not restart. i put a volt meter on the coil and recieved a 0.0 reading. Even when i tried to jump start it off the starter, the engine would only turn over.
So i was wondering, could the points and condensor gone bad, just that quickly? may i ask for your ideas of what could have happened to it?
thank you for your time
