Do recalls that affect safety ever expire?

All,

I've got a 68 C50 Dump truck. The Master B/C is loosing fluid out the top when pressure builds on a long/hard brake.

Doing some searching I found

Would GM still stand by this recall? I know the best answer is to call but curious if anyone has been in a similar situation

they have no reason to replace a 40 year old part.
While I don't know the answer, I'm going to say... no they won't. They will get a chuckle out of it though.

Re: Do recalls that affect safety ever expire?

Under the whole "old gm, new gm" reorganization B.S. even if you had a 2008 dumptruck, they wouldn't be responsible to fix it.

If you suffer a fatality or serious injury with any "old gm" product and try to sue gm..........guess what? THEY AREN'T LIABLE BECAUSE IT'S AN "OLD GM" PRODUCT!

i'm beyond words at this point.

they may never expire, but i know from my working in dealerships that they won't have any knowledge of this, let alone the parts for it. most recalls are stocked for number of vehicles built, but after a couple of years when no longer necessary, the parts were trashed. but you may be lucky with someone that has tons of nos parts bought from dealerships.

Re: Do recalls that affect safety ever expire?

I googled Recall time expiration, and supposedly a recall is good for the life of the vehicle. I do not know how long that is. I would have to agree tha 40+ years is too long.

It's been funny reading some of these comments. It's true it would be hard to keep a straight face when requesting the recall. This C50 is not going to win a beauty contest any time soon. I love watching peoples faces when I take it on the road

I don't know, but both my '86 and '87 were affected by the saddlebag gas tank recall...think they'd still honor the refund on them?

I say go for it, but wear one of those small hidden video cameras and then post the video so we can see their reaction.

Yeah.. I agree to. Do it. And if I lived closer I'd love to be there to see their reaction! Just drive up in the old truck right into the service center area parking spot. Come out wearing old work boots, clothes, old hat, etc.

I don't know how old you are but it may be more effective if some older driver in his 60's or 70's were driving it. Tell them it finally gave out and you almost had accident.

Instead of telling them it finally gave out, tell the dealership that you've listened to your wife nag at you about getting the recall taken care of for 40 years and finally couldn't take it anymore and decided to have them fix the problem.
