Original West Coast mirror

When I got my truck the mirrors were taken off. What screws were used originally? Self tapping sheetmetal? nut/bolt? Can someone post some pics of the top inside door so I can see how theres comes through. Thanks. david

there is a backing plate that the screws screw into to hold your mirror on..i dont have a picture of it but im sure one will post one up..

I imagine then the backing plate is inside the doors. Probably fell to the bottom of the door when they were taken off.

Is yours the large mirror with the horizontal bar across the top and the two legs mounted lower on the door? Like the ones mounted on the truck in my avatar?

more similar to these but factory or dealer installed. Because there's no other holes in either door. Mount at top of the door frame and below window.

some time ago someone had a pic on here of a bigger chevy car lot back in 67' and you can see many of these trucks with these west coast mirrors. A lot of 60-66 had them as well.

These are known as Jr.West Coasts.Do you hear the backing plate when you shut the door?I`m familiar with that sound.The Sr.West Coasts bolt through at the top and have acorn nuts on the outside.I believe the bottom mount uses the hex head sheetmetal screws like the camper and below eyelines.

I have factory Jr. West Coast mirrors and they don't look like these at all. Jr.'s are like the Sr.'s except the mirror legs only go about half way down the door. The Sr.'s mirror legs (supports) mount further down the door. My glove box list the Jr Mirrors. I might be wrong but I feel fairly confident that I am right?

No...those are actually Jr. West Coasts.In 67/68 there were the little mirrors that have a single rod and mounting point with 3 bolts as standard,then these jr.west coasts as options.The below eyelines and camper mirors followed.I can`t recall at the moment if 67/68s had sr.west coasts or not.
Is your`67 in original paint?Just like the ones showed on that last lighter blue `68 shown,there were aftermarket versions.

Yes its all original paint. I've seen them on here for sale off of 67's before'

Mine's listed as R V Jr mirrors, but they're the same animal. The top bolts/screws were 1/4-20 with a flat five sided head. (Like home plate on a baseball field.) They came through the top edge of the door with lock washers and painted acorn nuts. I changed them to a flat head that had a provision for an allen wrench so I could actually hold them while tightening. The bottom ones on my truck where just sheet metal screws. There may have been a plate at one time, but it was history when I got the truck.

The mirror arms you see in the pic are powder-coated stock, but the mirror heads are after-market stainless.

Were yours painted and you had them chromed,or are those stainless from factory?I see the option doesn`t mention they were stainless.Also,that`s a factory stake bed,right?That`s not mentioned,either.One of the nicest trucks on the site.What`s this?No TOTM,yet?

Good Point Special K...I never took into consideration that the mirrors changed over the years but the actual mirror name may have not changed. My 70 Jr. West Coast mirrors are not like the 67-68.

Yeah,I`m not sure if they used both jr.west coast and jr.rv names for the same mirror.I do know there was only one mirrir like that,the standard,and if they were available,yet,the sr.west coasts with the larger heads,triangle brakets top & bottom,and two struts to the lower door.

yes, that's a factory flat bed on the short wheel base. I don't know why it's not listed on the build sheet, but I've learned that this truck was <1% (less than 11 ) in total production of C20 swb dually's w/ a 292 inline according to the Dearborn Research Dept.. Apparently GM didn't keep track if a production number didn't reach 1% of a given class of vehicle.
Hasn't been a class for it in TOTM or, if there was I missed it

is that truck hard to steer? dually with manual steering?
